Can't wait to see the next set of products!Lots of fun happening over here in Atlanta.
I’ve been rather busy moving parts around and shuffling trucks…I’ll be adding a lot of new kits and products to the site soon. Thanks to my friend David for the awesome medium format film photos!
I’ll have a black 1998 L.C. being parted out soon (see photos). Engine and transmission are already spoken for. Does have a factory rear locker. 485,000 miles though

This may be a candidate for a new thread but I know of at least two late-model 100 series owners who have snapped inner tie rods on their rigs within the past two years.
Paging @MongooseGA and @BurnsCrew for photos/videos
I'm stocked up on 100 series inners now since these have become 'wear items' in our crew at least...
Here are some side-by-side comparison photos of the 200 inners, late model 100 inners, and early model 100 inners.
The dimensions I measured are at the smallest point on the tie rod (also where they broke in both cases).
I was curious to see if 200 inners would thread onto a 100 rack (they will not) or if the smaller threads were the same size for the outer TRE (they aren't). Rats.

I could be mistaken (it happened once) but I do believe the Cruisers had slightly heftier tie rods than the peasant trucks. What's interesting to me is that you see tie rods snapping all the time on different model Toyotas, yet it's not typically common on 100s. It may be a sheer volume thing where there's more Tacomas and 4runners out there in general (and then also wheeling their rigs hard on the trail)? However, even on MUD I'm not seeing a lot of discussion or talk about tie rods breaking on 100s. I haven't done any measurements of a Tacoma tie rod personally. The main take away from this is I'm officially paranoid and loading up on extra inners and outers.

FWIW, Crossfit Zach and I are the only 2 *I* know of who have had this issue. But, I also carry spares now due to this incident. Zach wheels pretty hard and is now on 37s, and I had some kind of issue before climbing those steps in the video (visible if you watch in slow-mo). I was also locked in the front, which I don't tend to like doing when there's much steering to be done.
You should also grab some extra U-joints from Patch, because those have a little more history of trail breakage than the tie rods. I carry a spare f/r drive shaft, spare axle, spare inner tie rod, and 2 spare outers (D/P specific).
Oem 100 series tie rods generally don’t break…. However 200 series tiie rods NEVER breakWhat's interesting to me is that you see tie rods snapping all the time on different model Toyotas, yet it's not typically common on 100s. Well I’m not really sure what one has to do with the other but I’ll play along…..they just find the next link in the chain which is the CV

It’s better than a broken front diff.![]()
