I can say I was a little stressed out the first time I went through an out of town tech inspection too. Expecting everything to work on the old 40, even if it worked when I put it on the trailer, is presumptuous at best. Not having my garage and normal network of friends used to be pretty unnerving. That said the Cruise Moab group, at large, is the best I have been around at any event. Unless you just don’t have a parking brake or it doesn’t work at all I’m betting you find a way to get through tech. There are plenty of places to get your heart rate up on the rocks, I’d save your stress tolerance for that. It’s getting close and I’m getting excited to see everyone and spend some time on the rocks! See you all there.

This was posted 2/1/26 on the Rising Sun forum.... It's always interesting info.

The 80 Series is king of Cruise Moab!!

Here are the results of CM 2026 registration. This is a snapshot in time as of today, since we'll have cancelations and additions in the next few months.

Every year, we get more registered female drivers!

We have more vendors for CM 2026 than ever before!

It's no surprise that Rising Sun and Wasatch Cruisers have the most people coming to CM.

Lots of first timers to Moab this year!

The 80 continues to be the #1 vehicle, but other models are increasing.

Finally, here's a look at states. This may not be entirely accurate since it shows where the vehicle is licensed rather than the person's home address.

Ok we are getting down to the final Vehicle prep days . Things to do :

Nut and bolt your Vehicle . . spend a few hours and go over the entire rig . This does 2 things A lets you get a good look at everything and B if you need a specific tool make sure you add that to your Tool Kit .

Go through your tool kit . Makes sure you have everything you need .

First Aid . Open up that first aid kit you bought 20 years ago and see what's in it and if you need to replace anything . In an Emergency you do not want to be looking for things .

Fire Extinguisher. Check that it is in good service .

Winch . Use it. unspool your line and re spool at a minimum I don't know how many times we have had people that there winch does not work . Make sure you have spare batteries for the remote as well .

Radios I would say 99 percent use a GMRS now make sure you charge the batteries .

Recovery gear . open that bag up and take inventory .

Spare parts . ??

Atitude . Bring a good one .

**** note ***. I know Utah requires a special off-road lic / permit . I took my test a few years ago so I don't remember exactly. I have never heard of anyone being asked about it or even if you get in trouble if pulled over ? But I have mine .

If life goes as planned I should be there the entire week so if anyone wants to run something let me know .

I'm fairly certain that OHV education course only applies to operating OHVs (dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs, etc).

"4x4s registered as normal road vehicles are exempt from taking the course" (found in the OHV Education FAQ here: Utah OHV Education Overview, the wording in some other questions makes it confusing though).

Not a bad idea to still do the course though, it's free and takes <30mins.

Thats what i was thinking when i read it - didn't apply to licensed vehicles. Was ot in effect last year? I don't remember it.

Im gonna run elephant hill on the 13th. I know its a little ways out of town, but im looking for someone else that wants to run it that day

But thats good advice Jeff.

Good thing you reminded us.

Is this classified as "final prep"?

YES Thursday Night

I'll be doing the San Rafael Swell run. I'd like to get my tech inspection done in Moab before we meet just in case I need to address anything. On the email link we were sent I see: "...if you took care of your tech inspection in Moab on Tuesday with Rising Sun." I'm searching around on the CM site but I'm not finding a time to get inspected. Do I show up at HQ anytime on Tuesday?

The swell run will be doing your tech inspection. Tech for the event starts on Wednesday. No one is at HQ on Tuesday to do tech. The only people at HQ Tuesday are the registration check in people setting up to give everyone their swag.

Ahh, well hopefully myself and everyone else doing the Swell run is 100% and doesn’t need to backtrack to Moab for anything.

it's a pretty simple inspection.... all the lights work, no excessive play in your steering, battery is properly held down (no ratchet straps,, fire extinguisher etc..
just make sure your parking brake works.

I have a spare 40 that I am bringing but it will stay at camp . if someone ends up needing it we can run and get it . I run Beadlocks so can run pretty much with a flat tire if needed
