at Cruise Moab, I got to gun the official Golden Spike run :steer: - with Michael following me :steer:

although we started slow (expecting a zoo as we saw some 30 trucks go in before us while airing down) - we made it to the crack in record time - lunch there at 1:15 - out at blacktop at 4:50

oh, and another first: I ran Skyline Drive :bounce: :steer:

How about a game of "Find the Cruisers"?

The landscape shot is from Dead Horse State Park, main overlook.

It just so happened that the CSC gang had come in from Lockhart and decided to check out Chicken Corners. We saw them, but I was shooting my wide-angle lens, and was too lazy to go back to the truck for the 200mm...

The road in down there is Potash Road on the west side of the Colorado canyon, with Thelma & Louise Point roughly in the middle. Chicken Corners ends below the reddish butte on the other side of the Colorado. In the crop pic below, you can just about make out the vehicles...

Apparently you missed a critical part of the definition of tailgunning.:hillbilly:

Nope, she didn't.
I wasn't registered, so I was behind the official run.

I was hanging out there with Drew, who was registered but came in late. After the 'lunch-spot-overlook' (which this time was neither a lunch spot, nor was there time to take in the overlook as the leader has moved on) , a large gap had developed between the main group and the back - a white Taco from Alberta had lost contact, and since it was his first time on Spike, he drove very slowly. So Drew went in front of him, and things sped up after that.

So, as mentioned before, Claudia and myself took to the west side of the river for a bit to check out a few new-to-us sights, and we ended up in Moab on Tuesday night.

Claudia went thru tech on Wednesday, and we hung out in camp with Glen. Then we headed out for Spring Canyon Point, stopping by Secret Spire on the way. Back to 313 and into Dead Horse State Park (see above) where we met some more Canadians, and back to town thru Long Canyon. All of that is basically 2WD dirt road, with a bit of blacktop on UT 313 in between.

Thursday: Golden Spike. After some shenanigans last year, I wasn't going to sign up for CM; since Claudia wanted to do the official Golden Spike Thursday run, I was just going to hang out in the back. The run started very slow; by the time we reached the top of the switchbacks, I had the motor off like 5 times already. And as the going got very slow in the first offcamber section, I thought that any hikers were going to pass us... :) But then everyone settled into a rhythm, and while the group didn't drive fast, it moved quickly...

Don't have many pictures from Golden Spike, but then again, I've got most of it covered from previous years... In fact, I have very few truck-on-rock pics this year. I've been shooting landscapes all week.

So: Secret Spire; view of the Green River from Spring Canyon Point, and the switchbacks up to Poison Spider Mesa...

I was behind that stinky 80 all day long :crybaby:

by the end of the day, I could have been convinced that diesel was a fragrance

Carnage Report:

Glen picked up a stick in a sidewall, in Arch Canyon. His comment; good thing I dropped the extra dime on the bullet proof Kevlar!:hillbilly:

Greg ripped the bottom out of his Trasharoo on the big poser rock at Elephant hill.

Most disturbing; the chicken disappeared off of Chris's rig!

The best one. We are enjoying the view on top of Murphy's Hogback, this motorcycle comes up with a Trasharoo on the back. We are making comments about him re-purposing a Trasharoo as a pannier. Rides over, asks if anyone had lost one, look over and Glen's is gone!:o It had fallen off on the climb and the rider hauled to up and returned it!

:hillbilly:

Another argument for keeping you junk inside the rig?:hillbilly:

I'm afraid to ask, but what's the deal with the chicken?

This thread is so much better on a PC than on a phone... Looks like a great time. I haven't been to Moab in 20 years, and that was on a mtn bike. Followed an FJ40 up Poison Spider Mesa though. One of these days...

More pictures. Take a look at this sign at the end of Golden Spike.

We should show that sign around the TRAL meeting. It baffles me that they can post that stuff in Moab but it's unthinkable here.
