What about US topos.I have City Nav for the highway and towns - no topos yet

I have all sorts... Garmin Topo USA and Overland Navigator US and Utah for the computers and National Geographic Trails Illustrated Maps for the parts of Utah we will be in.

The National Gergraphic maps seem to be the best... I just ordered the Overland Navigator stuff today but it should be a lot better then the Garman topos.

which ones?

Best Maps

So are the hardcopy National Geographic Illustrated Maps the best- if so which ones? Which ones cover the CSC runs and Cruise Moab runs? There are 24 for UT $12/each

Here is a list of maps I've picked up over the years for the area...
213 Glen Canyon N.R.A. $11.95
703 Manti-La Sal $11.95
210 Canyonlands $11.95
246 Canyonlands (old) $9.95
501 Moab South $9.95
500 Moab North $9.95
712 San Rafael Swell $11.95

The tourist information center in Blanding is fantastic and will have all of these. 703 Manti-La Sal should have most of what we will be covering with CSC's. 501 Moab South and 500 Moab North should cover all the trails that you will be doing with Cruise Moab.

I did see it... They got even more snow after that was recorded... We have always run it in the other direction but it's not a trail I think I would like to run in the snow.

Thanks. I will wait till Blanding to see what the Nat. Geo. maps look like. I have an old state map entitled "Southeastern Utah" (put out by Utah Travel Council), which has many trails on it, but its fairly old.

How does the US Topos compare to the Canadian Topo's.? Its a locked map set, is it not? - good for 2 PC loads ??

Travel Plans

I thought I would share my travel plans with the southbound Coastal Cruiser contingent (5 trucks in total).

I am taking the 7:00 am ferry Wednesday April 21st, which should be get me through the border by 10:30 am or so. I will be camping the way down, most likely at the parks recommended by Drew. Taking the fastest way via Google maps. The first night I will probably stay at the Yakima Sportsman Park. Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission - Park Information

In Southeast UT I might take a loop past Hanksville and come from the west to get to Blanding - (maybe Valley of the Gods) if I have the time.

I will be in Blanding UT (Four Corners Inn) on Saturday April 24th to connect with Drew and the Copper State Cruisers, for 3 days of pre-Moab wheeling, including two nights at Monticello, UT. (elev. 7,000 feet). Since Moab is warmer I will be camping at the Area BFE 5 nights. I guess our first official full meet-up of the Canadian Coastal Cruiser Contingent will be Wednesday April 28th. Is anyone else joining the pre-Moab Copper State Cruiser runs?

Diesel looks to be about $3.10 us gallon in Rocky Mountain area of the US ($0.84 Can litre) - I reckon maybe $200 fuel to get there, maybe more with the bigger boots on now..

I hope to be there Tuesday April 27 in the PM.

We won't get to SE Utah to join in on the CSC pre runs.

Our plan is leave this Friday afternoon, stay overnight somewhere past Seattle. Head SE and cover as much ground as possible. Pick up supplies along the way (food, drink, dog food), waste some time at Cabela's. Sunday try to get to Capitol Reef NP by dark. Do some some backroads and slot canyon hikes as we work our way past Torrey, Hanksville, Goblin Park, San Rafael, up to Green River. Then wander over to Moab by Wednesday. Hoping to see some dinasaur tracks and pronghorns, never seen either.

We gave up our spot on the overnighter so I am going to need to find an alternative run for Thursday. Friday Porcupine Rim. Saturday Elephant Hill. Now I'm worried about E.Hill since we'll have our dog along :crybaby:.

Ah well, however it all works out I'm pretty stoked about this trip.

Glenn, We will most likely be seeing you in Yakima unless we so how manage to make to Yakima before 3pm then we will most likely push on to Emigrant Springs State Park. I was going to suggest we meet up in Price on Friday around noon and go throw the San Rafae Swell and find somewhere to camp before Hanksville. Leaving us Saturday to do some more exploring and make or way to Blanding for late afternoon.

I will see the rest of you along the way. 45 hours 11 minuets before my planned depature:bounce2::bounce:

Yakima - Price UT

Drew - I should be in Yakima by 3:00 -3:30 pm on Wed. If we don't connect in Yakima I will be in Price UT by friday noon for the pre-pre Moab run. I will PM you my cell #.

Yakima WA to Price UT is 1,655 km -- I am not sure I can make it there by Friday noon.

Just looking at the numbers again... looks like we would have to make it to Emigrant State Park on Wednesday to keep each of the travel days to about 8 hours. In the past I've done an 11 hour day to get to Salt lake. I'm good with almost everything... if we don't get to Price until later in the day we will just have to find a camping spot that fits our time line.

Here is my optimistic plan Peace Arch to Price, UT, USA - Google Maps but thats all it is.

I was hoping to, but looks like I may not roll in till the Wednesday. I haven't ruled it out completely, but...

Now I've ruled it out :crybaby:
I have to work Friday and Saturday, so Sunday would be the soonest I can leave. I guess I'll see you all at BFE.

Martin, we're on the same Elephant Hill run Saturday

My to-do list is still way too long...

Yes Pendleton OR to Price UT is 680 miles so that looks feasible in approximately 1.5 days (Emigrant Springs Stata Park 26 miles south of Pendleton OR.)

so is there anyone out there that can bring back a few items from Moab for me will help out with some gas money..

Kevin

My BJ74 is packed to the gunnel and not a spare cubic foot to be found.. Calgary is a long way from Victoria and the stuff you want hauled is bulky and heavy and I doubt if anyone will have that kind a spare room in a cruiser returning from Moab.Best of luck in any event.

Have you posted on the Mudship forum as well Kevin? Maybe the Spokane Cruisers and/or Rain Country. I'm sure anybody that has room would be willing to help
