Norm - Shim your wastegate to get more boost - I am sure it improves engine efficiency at the 4,000 to 7,000 feet we were running at. Next year I hope to have 3" exhaust and 15 psi boost to keep up on the Interstate. Jim of the Copper State Cruisers says the unofficial speed limit in Phoenix is 85 mph!

Hey Glenn, glad you made it home ok. We missed you by seconds at the Wal Mart...

For sure next year big exhaust, more boost, 35s and Mark's gears... and more time!

A few pics for those who couldn't go.

Thursday morning, waking up to ice and snow!

Glenn or Norm (sorry guys, I can't recall which of you were on this run).

Dragging butt with the '55 (it didn't happen as often as I thought it might)

Well that was a great trip. I'll be back next year if remotely possible.
I did some calculating of fuel mileage and found out that following Drew is extremely good for mileage numbers :D
On the way down I was blasting into heavy winds a lot of the time, and rolling 115-125 km/h. Got from a worst of 20.18 mpg to an average of 22.5.
Coming back I went tempo de Drew, more like 100 km/h give or take. Mileage jumped to a whopping 27-28.5 mpg

I wont a diesel option...

My average was 12.5mpg and worse was on the return trip into the wind with 8.97mpg we used a total of 296 gallons of fuel this trip...

Mileage

I have been tracking mileage since the 35’s went on with the Marks 1.08 underdrive (equivalent of 4.44 diff ratio). This includes some pre-Moab in town driving, the trip to Moab (60-65 mph) and all the trail running. My average was 25.8 mpg (imp) over a distance 6,234.2 km (3,900 miles) with a 20% correction (GPS adjusted).

Cramped and as slow as she is -- the BJ74 is an economical and a very capable little rig.

I didn't track milage too closely, didn't matter really, but I figure it wasn't too far off the 14l/100km.

BTW, I talked with a guy whose supercharged fzj80 did 5.x mpg getting from Denver with the headwind on Wed :meh:.

Spoken like a man who's never owned a 3B powered Cruiser. The BJ74 is a rocket :grinpimp:

It is a sweet piggy. I believe they are 34" Swampers - bias ply IIRC. LTBs?

34"x9.5"x15" TSL bias Super Swampers for the time in Moab. I bought them in Portland, OR specifically for use in Africa later this year and into the future with the BJ60. I swapped out to LT235/75/15 street tires I bought from a guy in SLC for the trip home as the Swampers are too much tire for the highway. Crossed back into Canada with the near new Swampers with no problems.

I'll be back into 33"x9.5"x15" BFG's soon but they will be All Terrains this time. I already have my source.

Discount Tire? They're only just over $700 out the door mounted.

Better! $600, mounted on 'Cruiser rims with the hubcap clips like the '55 needs :) and a set of 5.

Apparently never used and the rims are new too!

Copper State Cruiser pictures

Kevin (of the CSC) 'Tools R Us' took many great pictures with an informed narrative from Page 2 #33 post onward. Drew and I were with them from this point forward to the end and Norm on the White Rim run (Canyon Lands is fantastic and I would like to do at least 1 overnite in there). Check it out.

It is hard to comprehend the scale of topography of the canyons around Moab and its mind boggling. The wheeling is challenging and you can take your vehicle to new limits with less risk than up here. I encourage others to consider coming next year, although I would not drive down in anything less powerful than a 13BT. My hat is off to Martin in taking his 3B down there.

I em' next year.

Finally had a good look at the pics. Looks like lots of fun again this year. One year I'll get to go.

I see the GMC was back on the trail again this year. Does this mean the TLCA is allowing on non-Land Cruisers on TLCA sponsored trail runs now? Maybe I'll get to go sooner than later. :meh:

There are a few non-land cruisers registered every year. Most are family members of a TLCA member, but I don`t know the details

Plus the GMC has a 40 bezel...

Pretty sure you need to be a TLCA member to register at a TLCA event John, i.e. own a Toyota 4wd. Then if you choose to show up to the event in something else because your Toyota is a $500 yard ornament/"project", well, :meh:.

Hey, I got better than a bezel you can hardly see on that GMC. Picture proof ... :grinpimp:

I bet there are a few more 'Toyota' parts on my Safari than the GMC has...
* 60, 80 & 100 Series Rims
* front axle tube seals are the same as an hj75 seals
* 80/100 Series front arm bushes are the same
* 80/100 Series front shocks and springs are a clean fit and cheap 2.5-3" front lift
* 100 Series front bump stops are the same (rear Prado will also fit in Patrol front)
There's more, but I have to look for it on the Aussie forums.

I should be ready to go next year...that is my plan.

The scenery is absolutely amazing and I have to see it in person.

Me too. I would love to go...

... once I get my ornament... er, I mean project. :D There is an old green 40 about two blocks from me that has been tucked between a fence and a shop for ever. I've noticed the guy's wife has done a lot to re-landscape. I bet she has been putting the screws on him to sell or move it.
