Wednesday morning we went to Area BFE for tech/registration. After the mandatory BSing was done, headed across the highway to Needles overlook.

The first canyon opening in the first pic is Harts Draw, where we were the day before. The trail in the valley is Lockhart basin. The big mesa in the third pic is Islands in the Sky. The plateau below it with the white edge is White rim. Just down from White Rim, towards the left side of the pic, is Monument Basin, we will be up close to these on the Saturday run.

Took a side trail that ended at an overlook into Harts Draw. A pic of a lizard, didn't know that Carl was taking my pic at the same time?:hillbilly:

There are a bunch of turnoffs, one that Glen picked, turned onto, was really cool. It opened up into a web of trails going along the rim with great views. We didn't have time to explore most of them, so need another trip.:hillbilly:

Cool photos. :)

Good thing, too, that you post them all. Since I happened to pick similar frames, this will save me a lot of resizing work.

And this way, I won't be the one who gets accused for shooting with the color saturation cranked up... :grinpimp:

What I really enjoyed on the overlooks was that - in contrast to the majority of other visitors - most of us have a reference of what it means what you can see from the overlook. We know how it's like being down there on the Lockhart road, we've felt what the dust is like on that lonesome trail, we've looked up in awe at those tall cliffs, we've seen how harsh the shadows are in the morning, and we've experienced how the sinking sun can set those red rocks on fire.

We also now know that ignorance is bliss, that Hurrah Pass can be driven much faster in the dark when you don't know how far down it is if you were to miss one of those switchbacks  :grinpimp:

So. Coming out at dusk-ish may not be half bad...:hillbilly:

I can't post pics - MUD attaching is brokeded for me :frown:

Great time- great people

Hi everyone - I would like to thank everyone for a great time I had and "I will back" next year. I am sure it will be warmer next year, hopefully less ice on the windshield in the mornings and shorts every day. It is a long haul to Moab there and back for me, I would say 25 hours one-way with the ferry, but well worth it. I love that desert scenery and the phenomenal traction, which is such a contrast to our temperate rainforests, which is wet, muddy and slippery.

Take care and happy trails – till next time.
~Glenn

Thursday was Golden Spike, a great trail that is a test of driver and rig durability. A big group showed to the meet point, with a large percentage being CSC/CC.

There was good news, Brittan was allowed to join due to some no shows and bad news, the forecast looked snotty and someone reported a cracked frame before even starting!

The Wedgie. There seemed to be more urgency than in the past, so didn't get pix of the rigs in the front. It was probably a good thing, knowing how the day turned out.
