I believe this is the same monolith as in Chris's pic from a different angle. What a difference an hour or so makes.

Saw a bunch of these, some kind of sheep herding device?:hhmm:

Here you go Norm. No strap on, Carl's truck may get jealous.:meh:

Here are my 2 pucker moments of the trip. Did Behind the Rocks on Friday, and the first picture(from video) was on the descent of High Dive. On Saturday did Hells Revenge with Kurt from CruiserOutfitters as our trail leader and he took a few of us over to Potato Salad Hill, that was when I felt like I was going over for sure. I'll have more pictures and video soon.

Shannon, do you have pictures of the other CSC members who went down the Highdive? :bounce:

Nobody else in my group was in CSC. They were doing Tip Toe Behind The Rocks while i was on Behind The Rocks.

On Tuesday the "plan" as exploring canyons off of 211, first headed to the Harts Draw area. The first canyon we tried didn't go far, so got to polish our turning around skillz.:hillbilly:

A pic from our "home" in Monticello and for some reason Glen always leaves his "passenger" door open? :D

We headed back to the highway to try Lavender Canyon. There was some discussion/arguing/fisticuffs about the "proper" entrance and we took the "wrong" one, trail 107. Most maps show one trail in Lavender, connecting from 107 and the signed entrance. WRONG there are three trails, the "official" trail from the west signed entrance and two from 107.

This pic, taken on Harts Draw road approaching 211, shows the landmarks for finding the trails.

HMMM - I don't remember seeing those signs?

We arrived at 107, Drew went scouting to find the proper trail, then we were off. Tried the lower trail, it was washed out were it went close to Indian Creek. So spotted Drew through some pretty challenging washouts to atone for his earlier incomplete scouting or because he's Canadian or something.;p

Anyway figured out that wasn't the trail for us, turned around and took the higher trail. It turned out to be a great drive, on the lower edge of the mesa.

From the end the mesa looks like a spire.

They have done a very nice job of decorating the place. Great paint job on the rocks, etc, these piles of mud with rocks on top are a nice touch!:hillbilly:

Near the end of the canyon the shelf road became tight, scouted ahead and found a rockfall/washout the we weren't prepared to deal with. The 3:30 rule was in effect and our goal for the day (returning to Monticello at duskish) was accomplished, so used our well honed turning around skillz and went out the way we came.:hillbilly:

Further map review (the new San Juan maps) shows the trail coming to a fork after we stopped. One dead ends in a side canyon, the other goes past the end of the mesa and connects to 107. We may have to attempt a loop connection at a later date.
