Congrats - Dave and Yosh haven't hinted at a date yet. Probably scoping far away sites reachable by 4x4x4's only for the wedding. They need time for the research...and site visits of course! hehehe

Ahh, just another addiction for us modaholics! Congrats on your ticket too!!!

If it makes you feel any better, once this bug got me, I had TWO vechicles to put radios in! Radio, antenna, antenna mount - Fawk - adds up quick x2!!! The install is fun tho!

You'll 'meet' lots of very nice people, much like this great community on Mud. In the year plus that I've 'mostly' listened, I've only run accross one repeater out in the San Fernando valley that had a couple of pricks talking. Funny...they never, never id'ed themselves. If they had, I'd have pulled over on the freeway and written down their call signs and sent a nice letter to the FCC! It was foul, racist and just about anything else imaginable.

I've heard people speak spanish too. That's against the FCC rules.

I may be incorrect in my posting.... i think you may just have to give your callsign in English. Everything else can be in Spanish or a different language. *i think*

It's been a while since i read my book.

Corrected yourself before I could type a response. IIRC it's only your identification that must be in english. Otherwise, any language is appropriate. Member of the SOARA group in south county goes thru the repeater frequently using echolink to connect to radio Russia! All in russian, as far as I know, except for their call signs. That's all english. Disney repeater, as well as the Laguna Woods repeater have a lot of spanish speaking users and same thing there - all spanish except for the call sign identification in english.

With so many HAM's in our group we should think about a HAM Directory sticky at the top of our SoCal80's page.

Earth to Dave/Tare - not a bad idea!!! :hhmm:

I know there's an all encompassing sticky thread in the Electronics thread for ham call signs for the entire board, but one specific to SoCal here would be nice!

You are incorrect in your posting. Station ID over voice must be in English.

Station Identification:

W5YI : Sec. 97.119 Station identification

Of course it's not as fun if you can't understand the language!

No - a sticky in the SoCal80's section (here - our little slice of the world where you and Tare have omnipotent powers as mods), not the 80 Series Tech section.

As Tare has done for the newbies sticker here, ask for no chat. Limit it to your name and call sign. Perhaps other pertinent info like equipment, antenna, etc. and even frequented frequencies or repeaters w/frequency and pl code would be nice, but keep it Ham related.

Name:
Call Sign:
Radio:
Antenna:
Favorite Frequency:
Favorite Repeater w/PL Code:

Something like that. Perhaps a single pic in the post showing your radio install in your truck w/o details of the install, etc. There's plenty of that in the Electronics section.
