Started to clean her up a little. Kinda of a waste of time, needs paint in a bad way but I've always considered that the last thing to do on a build.

she looks great! At least with the paint you don't have worry about scratches and such. The thing to really worry about is rust. If you don't have much of that, then this truck really isn't that rough!

one of the cleanest central american troopcarriers i've seen. You've lucked out. Hopefully you can get the engine sorted

So I had a rear wheel fly off( all wheel studs sheared) doing 110km/hr and slide down the road quite a bit. The family is ok but the Troopy had to be rigged back together with some random wheel studs. I guess my first question is how could this happen? All new OEM wheel studs, hubs, bearings, etc. installed per Toyota user manual. The only thing I can imagine that I screwed up is I torqued the Lugnuts down to 90 foot pounds. So please somebody correct me is that why this happened and would somebody know the correct torque for alloy wheels? Now I’m stuck in Guatamala can’t get parts (correct parts) or at least having a hard time getting parts.

bummer. I am using 90ft/lbs for the lug nuts on the aluminum wheels I am using. I don't think that caused that, unless the wheel wasn't seated properly some how when you torqued the wheels. also, maybe your rear axle housing is slightly bent, seems like this is usually the main reason for lug nuts shearing off, down in Australia.

that's really frustrating good news you are all safe, Elliot have you tried terrain tamer which they stock almost all toyota parts? they have a guy in USA named Cruiserbrothers llc and here is their number 209 475 8808 they stock Toyota parts and they place order directly from terrain tamer australia for you if needed, also there is an official Terrain tamer reseller in South America chile which they get all toyota parts direct from Australia I guess they will help you with all you need their email is : Simon Torrealba <storrealba@donkyatt.com.au> and Nicolas Bonilla <nbonilla@donkyatt.com.au> and Teodocio Perez Castillo <teodocio@donkyatt.com.au>

I would agree, that torque isn't crazy enough to cause what happened. @Crtroopy, do you have any detail shots of the failure you can share. How were the studs pressed into the wheel hub?

Parts are easy here in the US, we should have everything you need including a complete wheel hub assemblies here @ Cruiser Outfitters in SLC, Ut and can ship to CR using USPS or DHL. Is the wheel hub, drum/disc, etc damaged?

I definitely need a whole new wheel hub for the rear right I would need a whole new brake drum (but might be able to limp it to CR with existing drum) i found OME wheels studs so i am currently running on 4 studs in the rear right ( the fifth stud hole in hub is done for) Is it possibel to ship parts to Guatamala? Specifically to Flores, Guatamala? That's the closest big (ish) city that i can limp to.

The studs were press in type but i used a wheel stud tool and a impact to put them in.

What i am finding is the torque spec for toyota alloy wheels (i have nomads but tyey are aluminum) is 105nm or 78 ft/lbs. I have ome 14x1.5 wheel studs. Can someone confirm if my findings are correct? I would greatly appreciate it.

YES M14x1.5 for the Lug nuts or Studs

Well finally limped her back to Costa Rica....
Mechanical things to fix ( not the 1000 other things I need to do on the built.

1. Replace wheel hub and brake rotor when all wheel studs sheared in Mexico (wonderful story)
2. Replace power steering vain pump (assuming I'm right) which killed all power steering in Honduras (never need to go to the gym on arm days)
3. Sort out gear box after losing 3rd gear in Nicaragua. Made driving hills even funnier with a fat pig and 1HZ
4. Need MORE POWER almost didn't make it up Pico De Orizabab to camp, guessing I need a high altitude compensator as well.

Guess then I can go back to finishing electrical, water system blah, blah , blah

Yeah, but it looks amazing, so who cares about those niggling details?

Question for the GURUs.... In a quest to fix gearbox ( 3rd makes a crazy noise and 4th grinds badly when shifting into 4th) I found this one. The seller says it is out of a 2018 Land Cruiser behind a 1HZ. Can I swap out my 2004 gearbox with this without any issues? I currently have a 1HZ as well but will eventually be going with a 1HDT or FT (if I can find one) (can find a FTE but not sure I want to mess with the electrical) so if going to an different motor am I making a mistake swapping out my gearbox with what I'm assuming is the same R151F (seller did not verify that it was a R151F I am just assuming as that seems common here in Costa Rica) that I currently have. ANY and all advice is helpful

Post-1999 1HZ should always be mated to a R151F; however if you’re planning on a 1HD swap I would skip the relatively weak R151F and buy a new H152, straight from Toyota. The H152 would make the 1HZ struggle - and the R151 would be too weak for the 1HD. 🤷‍♂️
