Cooking With The Crockpot

They seem pretty doggone solid to me. A kayak should not be a problem. I have strapped lots of stuff up there. Tents, bag chairs, etc. I don't know if I would use those mounts for a roof top tent but just strapping a ground tent up there in transit would be fine. FWIW, Trail Tailor and Gamiviti make some super nice mounts. They are heavier duty and look better than these. These mounts came on the rack I have when I bought it used. They have served me well and I have no complaints.

The Crockpot came to me with an aftermarket spare tire mounted license plate bracket as the truck had been run for years with no top. No top = no ambulance doors. No ambulance doors = no license plate bracket. I had the original bracket in a box of parts but it was really crusty and pitted and the bolts were rusted in place. When I painted the CP and installed the top years ago I passed on restoring the original bracket. It was in such bad shape I knew that it would take a lot of work. I happened to have a decent '75-earlier license plate bracket in my parts stash so I shot that with bed liner and installed it instead. Of course the earlier bracket has a different mounting configuration than the later one so I drilled six holes in my ambulance door and bolted it up. It has worked fine that way but I really like the looks of the later license plate bracket. I just got around to restoring the original. Bead blasted. Skim coat over the pitted metal. Sanded. Broken bolts drilled out and re-tapped. Cleaned light housings. New bulbs. Painted and ready to install. It took me the better part of a weekend to get it to this point. No before pics but trust me, it was rough! Here is the after.

Remember the six holes in the door? Here's how I went about fixing that:

All I have left to do is to wire up the lights and reinstall the tag and I'm off to the races. Yeah right!

The 'Pot has not had a rear bumper since I have owned it. I decided that it was time for some factory bumperettes. Of course most of the original bolts snapped when I attempted to remove them so it was not quite as simple as just bolting on the new stuff.

The DS bumperette interfered with the 35" spare so I had to resort to drastic measures to get everything to jive.

Nathan and I drove the
Crockpot to the 2017 ONSC Relic Run. What an amazing event! The Crockpot did great on the trails.

The crockpot and @rodster6 bailed me out of a gnarly situation(lunch parking spot gone wrong) with some recovery ingenuity, that is one capable truck! Once again, I owe you one, thanks again!

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a year since I updated the Crockpot thread. Nathan and I drove the ‘Pot to the 2018 Carolina Relic Run last weekend. What a spectacular event! We had a lot of fun. Truck did everything we asked it to do.

I found a local guy who collects and sells vintage license plates. NC laws allow a vehicle 35 years old or older to run vintage plates that match the date of manufacture (or registration date) as long as the "real" plate is kept in the vehicle at all times for verification if needed. The 'Pot is registered as a '78 model. I pulled this 1978 Farm Truck NOS tag from the collector's box. It had never been used and was still nestled in its original paper sleeve! I like the look.

@roadstr6 is he the one that I've seen on Craigslist? I was considering adding a 78 plate to mine as well, but you never know what you're getting there...
Yes. Same guy. He works at Wolfman Pizza at Cotswold. He’s a good guy and legit.

Between work, family and keeping six cruisers on the road, I don't seem to ever find the time to keep Crockpot's thread up to date. Here's a little pic dump to keep things going:

I bought a set of used Kaymar soft top doors and pulled off the tops to give Crockpot some summer doors. I like them a lot.

Installed the Toyota 81110-60P70 Koito HID lamps and harness.

HID's make so much more light. HID's on left, OE Koito sealed beam bulbs on right. The pig will get HID's next.

Lol. I just have to say I was randomly scrolling through Mud and started at the end of your thread enjoying the wheeling pictures. I'm sure it was covered earlier but I saw the red thing on the bumper and squinted...is that a....bottle opener?? :p Hell yeah it is. I'm totally stealing that idea at some point. Hope you don't mind! ;) Very nice rig!

Look closer. I actually provided the Toyota part number...and you quoted it in your question!
Yes, and that´s a halogen conversion kit´s part number. Halogen and HID is very different thing.

I stand corrected. Halogen, not HID. Whatever it is, it's a very nice upgrade for a very fair price.
