And armored up

Decided not to use the second skid in the pic below. Initially tried it, but it took an inch of clearance and would turn in to a shovel in reverse.

New shaft from High Angle is a month away, and I wanted to go wheeling. Had the shop change the CV head out for a single cardan that I then took a grinder to.

Single cardan came in at about 22 degrees; I opened it up to 26.

My very technical analysis, which involved standing back, looking at the driveshaft and squinting a bit indicates that there is no significant loss of strength.

Made it through one wheeling trip, anyway!

Going to need to address the center skid, though. I always figured it looked a bit light. This last trip proved it.

Also had my air manifold explode in my hand the night before going wheeling. I was hooking up my new rear locker line and noticed I had a bit of a leak. Went to tighten the bolt and BOOM ... blew apart in my hand under full pressure. Was dumb of me not to dump the pressure before working on it, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Internal M6 bolt had seized to the barrel nut that holds the whole thing together. When I attempted to tighten, it sheared. For the record, they're M6 70MM x 1MM pitch. You can buy new ones at Home Depot at 9:30 pm while bleeding and make it wheeling the next day. I upgraded to grade 8.8 from the (I think) 4.6 garbage that was in there.

Ya, that skid need some attention 😉

What ever the replacement winds up being, I'm thinking an AR400 skin will be nice and slippery for the next time I decide to grind it out on the rocks trying to make an obstacle.

Thankfully it's still functioning for now, so I can continue to go wheeling while I figure it all out.

Of course I mean your hand. I want blood.
How about some under carriage carnage instead?

Does she look adequately broken in after a 1 day trip?

Meh. The people want blood.

You need bigger tires.
I do.

If you can tell me how to fit 35 spline axles up front, I'll stick 42s on her.

Cannibalize the axles from a deuce and a half? Go 44s

Finally got around to painting the trim on the Depos and installing. Painting went well after scuffing with Scotch Brite and applying three coats. Used SEM satin black trim paint in a rattle can.

Had to install a temporary grill, since my Land Cruiser Grilles custom didn't fit (cut for Lexus headlights, not Toyota). Not sure what I'll do long term, but this works for now. I ordered a new OEM Toyota grill to mess with.

Holy crap it feels weird to actually have a decent amount of light coming out of the headlights.

After replacing the distributor seals a couple of months back I'm still leaking all over my shiny new alternator, so I guess the internal shaft seal is shot, which is (effectively) non serviceable. DAMN IT!

PartSouq here I come.

Yeah but new parts in Toyota/Lexus boxes are dopamine hits. You know you’re having withdrawals.

Ordered! Had to snag a new battery for the other cruiser, too since parasitic draw liked it in storage for several months. Turned out to be an expensive day.

If you have a place to plug-in, hardwiring one of these in is the best mod I have done. Installed an easy plug-in in front trail tailor skid so when parked it’s always plugged in and ready to go. No more battery replacements from sitting with small parasitic drains.

I actually have that exact unit at the house, but unfortunately there's no power where the truck is being stored (which I'm working to rectify). I'll disconnect the new battery for now if I'll be leaving the truck for any more than a week or so. Parasitic drain seems to take well over a 8 weeks to kick the batterie's ass.

Does it work with your odyssey extreme battery and do you like it ?
I need one 😉
