More climbing.

Next up is the most challenging obstacle, a climb/decent over a small rock ridge. It’s two steps up and down, what makes it challenging is that you have to maneuver to lineup for the next section at each step and at the top. We made it without issue, but a FJ40 rolled here in last years CM prerun.

Rob lining up and on the first pitch.

The normal way to run Hotel Rock is in and out the same trail. But we have never been accused of being normal and there was a trail heading out the back of Hotel Rock, so we took it. It started out narrow, little used, after finding the correct direction at a couple of turns, it opened up to a good road that went up the ridge.

At the top, turned on South Elk Ridge, with the proper turns, it would have taken us into Blanding at the Edge of the Cedars park. Some in the group hadn’t run Arch, so we turned on Cottonwood and went back where we started and ran part of Arch. This allowed us to showcase our water crossing skilz!:hillbilly:

Took a ton of pix in Arch last year and it was late, big shadows so didn’t take many this year. The BLM “upgraded” the ruin sign, to one with little/no info.:frown:

When we got back to town we were joined by Claudia, Michael and the Semlin family.

Random pics; a few trailside views...:)

This more along the lines of what's to see around Moab (or what you missed if you didn't go...), not how bada$$ the trucks and obstacles are...

BTW, bada$$ trucks with a pulverized rear driveline CV joint courtesy of a bada$$ obstacle at the wrong time of the day quite instantly aren't so bada$$ anymore...;)

CLaudia into the sun on the Waterfall of the Poison Spider Mesa trail;

View from the parking lot outside the CM'08 banquet; yes, I was tired and bored; yes, they are always putting power lines where you don't need them; no, I haven't bought the software and I'm still running in trial mode, but I'm thinking about buying it.

By the way, the new lens is on the fritz :crybaby:

Is this seriously the second time this has happened? any idea what the causes are? to much lift? too muc weight up hight?

First time (CM07 pre-run) was too much air in the suspension and tires:hhmm:, a steep and slightly off camber hill with a ledge:bounce:, and a goose to the skinny pedal after the truck went up the ledge but the trailer had not:doh:.

Second time (CM08 pre-run) was too much confidence and a trail leader who wasn't pulling a trailer. Drew chanted that he'd beat the trail after clearing last years obstacle d' flip :cheers:and carelessly follwed your's truly:eek: down a hill about a 1/4 - 1/2 mile later. The trail took took the advantage and turned the tailer on its side:whoops:

I would think that made a mess out of the trailer tongue, what did it take to get it up and going again?

Actually it was simple - had a 360 swivel hitch. We just manhandled it up - well the first time Kevin strapped it to its feet...

I would think that made a mess out of the trailer tongue, ...

The hitch is well designed for wheels up operation, just needs wheels on all sides and it would be good to go!:hillbilly:

Just needs a round roll bar, lefty righty, and it will end up back on it's wheels, right? John

mounting auxiliary axles on the top would alleviate any problems :flipoff2:

then, the sammich could never land on the wrong side
