Hey thats my Troopy

Definitely one of, if not the best pop top tent you can buy

Awesome, thanks! I watched a video of a guy in Oz who had just got his installed and he was somewhat unhappy with the newer design as it limited headspace when the bed was raised. He was able to make a relatively simple mod to help remedy the issue to a degree. Curious to see the videos to really tell the difference.

Edit: found the video where the guy explains the difference in the two options:

FWIW: The same Youtuber received a new bed platform without the space issue while still having the view out the back

Herer's his vid a from a few months after the vid you posted.

@prwillard2 you are doing every one with a troopy that wants a pop top a great service by setting up the discounted group buy and fielding all of the questions. I ordered an Alu-Innovations top last year and at the time air freight was actually substantially cheaper than shipping by sea. That has likely changed, especially for shipping multiple units. The price of the top with out the discount is a very good value, but man I wish I had waited until some one organized a group buy. I think my top might be the first one in the US, but as it is not yet installed I didn't mention it on mud. I paid The R 89,900.00 that you show on the invoice you received from Alu-innovations. The Rand fluctuates wildly and the actual dollar price will vary accordingly.

The box that it came in is pretty big, approx 10' x 5' x `14" and it filled my 10' x 5" trailer completely. It was very well packed and there was no damage with the shipping. I am very happy with the product, and the workmanship is very nice. My only complaint is that I received the first "upgraded" iteration of the solid bed platform, the one that hinged further back than the original design; the same one that the "Honest Review" bloke gripes about (Post #112). I really prefer the original design that is like the Alu-cab version, the one which has the small bed section opening to the rear. This would be the "Option 1" mentioned in post #103. As the bed platform is aluminum square stock it could be modified fairly easily.

All of the videos posted in this thread show the features of the top really well. Once the rust repairs in the roof of my troopy are complete, I plan on cutting the top off and installing myself. I will be using either Sikaflex 221 or 227 as the adhesive. I have no concerns about needing to renew the adhesive in the next 20 years.

I'm happy to answer what questions I can and if any east coasters feel like a trip to the outer banks they can come check out the top for themselves. I would say anyone that is remotely interested in getting a pop top should jump on this deal. If you change your mind I imagine some one else would be happy to take it off your hands.

Do you have any photos of the install process? I would like to see the transformation

Sorry, re-read the post. Its not installed yet. Got it.
Hoping to have it installed in the next month or so, but other things seem to have taken priority. I'll try to document the process, but I think the youtube videos capture it better than I would.

This one from 4xoverland shows the cut and paste of the Alu-Innovations:

And here is a good DIY alu-cab install:

And one from Alu-Cab:
Troopy Fitment - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-CBnhq7P98&t=17s

The alu-innovations installation is slightly different from the alu-cab in that the roof cross member brackets DO NOT get cut down. And there is a slight difference in the height above the gutter and wind shield that is referenced. If you have the MP4 and PDF document that @prwillard2 has shared you should have everything you need to get the job done.

Which bed style do you have? Would you be willing to share some pictures?
Mine is the 1st generation bed base with the rear hinged hatch,

I have seen numerous of the newer versions, but having used mine for some time now, i must confess, I do prefer the hatch method on mine, but everybody is different and have different preferences.

Just a side note: When i bought my Troopy it already had an Alucab Hercules pop top fitted. I had Alu-Innovations remove it and fit their Kronos78.
My reasons, 1st, the Alucab Hercules was just "fugly". 2nd, mine had separated from truck body at the front right, Alucab and the previous owner had made a few unsuccessful attempts to rectify and reseal this issue, to the point of filling the mounting face with expanding foam - unsuccessful.

I only have two criticisms of Kronos78. (a long list, I know :) )
1) the rain awning - mine is Gen2 that has 4 spring steel rods that need to be inserted to extend and hold the awning extended on the rear and sides. The rear rods are simple to install, but the two side rods need to be installed from inside the tent, a bit of a PITA. The Gen1 version rain awning did not extend round the sides of the tent and only had two rods at the rear, this would be my preferred option. However this rain awning can be rolled up and tucked (bungeed) into the top of the tent lid, which is now how i prefer to use it.
2) With a few bags of wood loaded on the roof tent rack it can be heavy to pick up and get the gas struts extending automatically.
I am totally happy with my Kronos78

Here is a pic of the tent with the rain awning rolled up and tucked away. The 78 Series on the right.

Just got a message back:

I have two options
Both hinge upfront
The difference is the rear access hatch
Option 1 is standard with the small bed section opening to the rear
Option 2 is the small bed section is part of the whole bed flip and only access when the entire bed section is closed

He also said he will send pics and a video which I will share.
Not sure I follow how Option 2 works. It hinges from the bed, so you flip it open, forward, crawl over it, then flip it back shut?

Makes me think you can only get inside with the bed down from the outside. Which is a big no thanks from me.

Option 2 still has the rear access that folds up and is hinged at the rear (similar to the Alu-Cab) and the bed is still accessible from inside the vehicle, but the access "hatch" is part of the overall platform frame. When the main bed platform is pushed up the rear access portion goes with it as one piece. The youtube video in Post 112 should demonstrate how it works.

I was slightly confused because the video doesn't show there is still a hatch you can enter from below. But seems like you just lock into place and the whole entire bedding system moves up, which is nice.

They've also corrected the pivot points, nothing is on the B pillar anymore, have confirmed with Cassiem this is the case as well. Everything pivots from the A pillar, or as reasonably close as they can get to the A pillar.

I actually think for most people Option 2 would be more convenient, but I like the idea of the "access hatch" to be used as a small lounging area or seat, while the other portion is pushed up out of the way. It is nice that they moved the front hinge point further forward to where it was originally.

My "access hatch" is actually my removable fold up aluminium table, so I do not have that small latch at all. When my bed is down withvthe roof up, we can sit on it with our legs hanging down comfortably, and still have a an uninterrupted view out of our rear tent-window ... just another option if you like ...

Do you have any video or photos to highlight the options available? taller vs shorter top? Interior access options? Interior color options? If i could see some samples i would be happy. Actually i’m so looking forward to a pop top. Lol

Working on getting these videos. Cassiem told me they're working on them.

Other pics are in earlier pages of this thread.

Alu-innovations Instagram has a lot of videos already of installs he's already done, but will continue to press for a full video solely on the pop top.

@prwillard2 amy updates ? I’m in 100% just need to figure out what version to get.

Would also like a list of ports that we can ship to on the east coast.

Hey, thanks for asking.

I've repeatedly asked Cassiem for a walk around video, but he only keeps sending me tiktoks from his page. I shared his Instagram where he also shares these videos earlier. Login • Instagram - https://instagram.com/alu_innovations4x4?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

There was another individual that has already purchased 3 tents, I will confirm with Cassiem that this gets us to 15% off and another 2 tents will get us 20% off.

I've asked about the ports/individual shipping, awaiting a response.

I am unsure if each of us can purchase individual through Cassiem, something I need to confirm. Each individual purchasing is responsible for their own import duties, etc.

Will get confirmation on how payment is required (should be wire transfer) and if it's 50% up front and 50% before shipping or a different breakdown.

Troopy brethren:

Know a lot of you still have questions and concerns related to the group buy. I have a phone call set up with Cassiem on 31 October to get after all these concerns, but need your help so I answer all your questions. Please add your additional questions to the ones I have below, and I will get after answering them.

Questions:
1. Is it possible to ship to each coast of the US and/or can each individual purchase individual shipping.
1.a. How is payment done? Wire transfer/ credit card/ etc?
1.b Is full payment expected up front or is it 50% to start the order, and then 50% when it comes time to ship?
1.c. What is the timeline for this deposit, final payment, and shipping fee?

2. What is cheaper for shipping - air freight or ship freight? Does this impact if orders can go to multiple locations?
2.a Is all shipping required to go through a freight terminal and does it require an import inspection and customs duties?

3. Have we already met the requirement for 15% off because someone who was interested in this group buy originally has already purchased 3 tents?

4. Are other items on the alu-innovations website eligible for this group buy discount (15% or 20%)

5. Where is the video showing a full walkthrough of the tent itself, not some tic-tok bull**** video.
5.a. Size comparison of standard vs tall tent.
5.b. Schematic/video of how interior platform hinges up and down and where this hinge point is.
5.c. Pictures of color choices for both interior and exterior.

6. What warranty is provided on this equipment?

What else am I missing?

Paul
