Same as @rhah, broken axle. The axles are held in by a c-clip on the inner end of the axle, so when they break the wheel/drum/axle wants to leave the housing. To get off the trail you can do what I did (force it to stay in) or what rhah did and just go ahead and take it out and use a skid.
Ah appreciate the clarification. I wondered if it was a type of splint.

Always end up forgetting to take pics. Luckily this year the wife was on it more than I was...

Niece being crazy behind the wheel with Auntie Nar in the passenger seat.

Auntie Nar playing on her phone..

Haha. Sorry. Last year's tree photo. Note the silver wheels are now black wheels.
Merry Holiday? Everyone

2nd Annual Seattle “CruiseMas Tree Run” happened last Saturday.

Pretty fun day in the Cascades. We had 4 trucks this year (one up from last year) whole families come out and we make a day of it. Hike in 1/4 mile up hill and sled/pick trees in the late morning. We head down to the trucks and campfire have lunch. Somehow, I managed to get photos of everyone but my family / rig really.

What about the part where you found out there was not just a 4wd, but a front wheel drive and later on a zero wheel drive in your transfer case?

You realize thats just karma from parking it so close to that H55 and 3:1 geared split case you've had sitting in the garage for the last 2 years... it's telling you something...:flipoff2:

Alright, not everything is what it seems. It was an idyllic thread so I with that.

@Kleatus is right. Thankfully not while on top of a snowy mountain and only 15 miles from home.

My truck #FitzJ60 lost RWD in a very much mundane driving condition, with a loud clunk.

We pulled to the side of the road and I looked to see if I had broken a drive shaft. Didn’t see anything wrong so locked the hubs, put it into 4H and we moved. That lasted about 5 miles until whatever broke loose in the transfer case started grinding against the gears.

If it makes you feel any better @NookShneer . This was my tree run. Literally parked next to a supercharged douche bag.

I’ve been told that if an ABS sensor is disconnected on one of those things they car won’t start. <—— No Experience with that.

I really wanted to take the kids to cut down this year's Christmas tree in the '85 FJ60 I bought a couple of months ago but its still torn apart for an engine rebuild. Not wanting to let them down the only logical thing was to go buy another '85 FJ60.........
