Took it out for a drive on Saturday. I don't trust the tires, so still a bit leery of going too far (or too fast) from the house. Headed up highway 55 to a small town north of Boise, there's a 6 mile climb, 7% grade, on the highway, so I thought it'd be a good test.

I haven't messed with the fuel at all, overall impression was it's got as much power as an F, but the fuel economy has to be double. I wasn't able to stay in 4th, had to down shift to 3rd, but I also wasn't able to hit the hill with a head of steam due to traffic.

EGT's hit 1100 F, 10-12 psi, think I'll turn the fuel up one turn and try it again this weekend.

Keep in mind this as a 45 (a bit heavier than a 40) with 35's and 3.7 gears, so both tall tires and tall gears, I think I was doing about 50 mph in third, when I was maxed on the rpms (3000) & EGTs.

At 2000 rpms in 5th it's about 65 mph. 2000 rpms in 4th is 50, 2000 rpms in 3rd is 40 mph. On a side note, my speedo is 25% off on the slow side. I think I'll get a speedo correction gear box made to adjust it, but not until I get new tires and verify it again.

P.P.S.

The soft top with blown-out zippers and no rear windows is loud as hell at highway speeds...doubt the wife will be taking any road trips with me until I get a new top...

Pulled the rear bench out this weekend and put two more early 40 series jump seats in...looks like troopy seating to the untrained eye.

70 series rear seat is for sale in the classifieds.

Took the front drive shaft back to the shop that built it. I had them measure it and check the flange to flange length, turns out they made the shaft an inch too long. They fixed it and I'm back to driving a 4X4 again.

Took another drive up and over to Horseshoe Bend this morning to finish the break-in miles (~500) then stopped off and filled it up so I could check fuel economy. This half-tank was mostly to and from work (14 mile round trip) and one or two highway trips; ended up getting 21 miles per gallon (U.S.). Not too shabby for a 4500 pound four wheel drive on 35" tires. My neighbor's late 90's Subaru Legacy gets about the same around town.

Drained the break-in oil and filled it with some Rotella 15W-40, and turned the fuel srcew out one turn...ready for the new owner.

Bump: I’d like to inquire as to how this truck has run in the past 2.5 years since transfer of ownership...

I’m doing some due diligence here.

I’d like to hear honest feedback from the current owner @SJ40

No issues. Runs and drives great. Did a few little upgrades but hasn’t been in the shop for a mechanical problem yet.
