you gonna make some inner fenders to keep the muck out? well help to keep it out.

I dont have any fenders on the truggy right now not even skins and honestly mud doesnt really get on the engine dirt and dust do but that will happen either way.

Donno yet....:hhmm:
May weld in some tabs, but Im not all that crazy about doing it to be honest. Id really like to have that open for easier inspection and access to the side(s) of the motor.

I'd be a bit worried about the electrical stuff. It's not so much the one time thing as the long term exposure to alkali heavy water. The water here has a corrosive effect over the long term that is very hard on electrical connections.

You WOULD worry about something like that.:flipoff2:

I do get what youre sayin, but...
I do REALLY LIKE the idea of being able to see what is going on in and around that engine bay without a whole lot of effort.
I can see that coming in real handy like...on every RUN. If nothing else just for a "look see" when getting out of the rig to BS along the trail.

What would be the liklihood of what you describe, cuz im on the fence about it. I could weld tabs up now and I probably will.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Weld in the tabs, if it starts getting scummy inside fab up some skirts.

I great alternative is d zus fasteners when ya want to look a quck twist and there ya go.
keep em off until running mud and muck etc.
Never seen em used in that application but should not be any problem.

Fenders turned out bad@$$. The gap between the fender and slider is interesting. That is kinda crazy that you never see that part in pics. I guees you could extend it down if need be. Good to know, anyway good work!

Nice work Keith they look awesome.:clap:
2x on the inner fenders, you want to keep the ***** out of the engine bay as much as posible. You don't want the tyres trowing rocks arround your engine destroying small stuff.

Very Nice

Those look great! I think I would connect the outer aft end of the fender to the rock slider though. Just to make a smooth transition for any thing that might hang. Also, fender skirts would be nice to protect the radiator as well as the rest of the engine. That thing is radical! Very nice work.

Thanks for the props gents!
Point taken on the fender skirts. Ill figure something out for that. As much as Id like easy access to the sides of the motor, you all bring up good points, especially the scenario that Rusty describes. Electrical foul ups bring the SUCK more than anything I could think of.

On the gap...I brought the "BOSS" (my wife) out to look at it and get her opinion. She asked "what will happen if you dont fill it in?" I told her "nothing...its solid the way it is, but its entirely an aesthetics issue." She said "looks fine to me."
FWIW...she didnt like the motor exposed "LOOK" either.

BTW...anyone know where to get some plastic stripping to put on the bottom of the aprons? With the aprons being an open cut I think Id like some protection there.

Also...I had this dream last night...
I was welding some sheet metal on the floor pan. And I just barely struck an arc and I stepped back and watched the floor pan warp EVERYWHERE as if it were alive. All I could think was I hope it cools and goes level again. WTF?

Ive gotta get this thing DONE!

Yeah...I went back and checked on the very few pics I had seen of the MT fenders installed and NONE had a straight side view of that gap, so you really couldnt tell what they did with that if anything. Its actually a pretty big gap too. probably 1/2 in. to 5/8.
IIRC there was a pad of sorts that fit there that was on the stock fender for what ever reason. The EASIEST solution would be to cut and shape a 1/2 piece of steel and weld it to the top of the MT fender. Just thought of that actually.:hhmm:

Yeah, its about time you open up that bar.:hillbilly:

The new schedule is screwing with this build thread.

Ummmm...yeah...just a bit!
Its been a busy week to say the least. Ive been trying to sell some parts too, so checking on shipping here and there has taken up some valuable time as well.
Also...had to take a trip to Sierra Welding and get a new liner for the welder. Found out those are supposed to be replace every 2-3 years when using flux core wire.:confused:
It started crapping out on me this was weekend. At least I HOPE its just the liner.:hhmm:

I used big rig mud flaps to make inner fender wells on a H#*p I built witha buddy worked great

Schedule changes always suck...:D

i did not know that about the liner either... nice tip ...

Pics please!!!
I was sitting in my "OFFICE" this AM thinking about how to do the fender well thing AAAAAND make them easily removable. I checked out the Dzus fasteners that rambrush posted a few posts above...that seems like a GREAT solution to my issue, or something LIKE that. Basically a quick release fastener.
The problem that I see with the rubber flaps would be the potential for having them droop down into the wheel in the "belly" of them. They would be secured top and bottom, but the mid section would be left to flap around no?

I NEEDED this shift change, so its not all bad. I was on a 3, 12 hr shift working 36 hrs/ wk vs. a full 40 and you really feel that loss of 4 hrs/ wk in the pay. OUCH!!! That coupled with this HORRIBLE addiction that we all have here is not a good recipe for financial success. I was losing almost a grand a month. Plus, the LOOOONG days were a bitch too. However, it is a bit to get used to again. Gotta figure out my time I have again.
