Youre FULL of bright ideas!:idea::D
Ahh Shucks :)

Shroud is looking like it outa work.

Well I must confess I ran the World of Outlaws Sprint Car circuit for awhile with Sammy Swindell and assisted on Bobby Unser Jrs and Wayne Bennets cars at Manzanita in Phoenix. Was always known as someone who could look at something and figure out a solution. :)

I AM A DUMB ASS!!!
Spent several HOURS making a bracket (TWO sets actually) to bolt the two halves of the fan shroud together vertically...got away from it for a bit, not liking it, wanting to mill it over in my brain. Anyway...took the trash out and stopped to look at it. Then it dawned on me in a split second.
Several hours wasted (sort of) and a few feet on angle iron as well to come up with a TOTALLY cheap, clean and simple solution that would only take MINUTES to do.

Funny how that happens sometimes.

Here's to keeping it simple!

Well, what is it?

Sorry boyz...
I wanted to make TWO halves for the shroud for ease of removal later...Originally, I had made a bracket that wrapped around on the mating edges of the shroud and drilled holes to bolt it up. Took a LOOOON FAWKING TIME to do this little bit. I actually did it twice (off drilled).
So I bent up a backing plate that wraps around the INSIDE of the TOP half of the shroud and welded it on there. Its positioned so that its about 3/4 in down behind the TOP of the BOTTOM half of the shroud. I was just gonna use this to stabilize the two halves, then it dawned on me...just drill and bolt THAT. SOOPER EASY!

Here's the pics of it mounted. Nice and solid. I obviously need to do the finishing touches, but you get the idea.

Awesome !
So this way you won't need the extra lip that surronds the fan, right?

Did you change your original radiator support design? , looks a bit different from last time I came here.

Nope. Mind you this has been built based off of what others have done and the principals they have used. I say that to tell you that from what I understand, the fan blades are supposed to be half ina nd half out of the shroud for the most effective air pull across the rad. Now if the face of the shroud were flat against the rad. , then I would have needed to add the lip around the circumference if the fan.
At least that is how I understand it anyway. Hopefully it works. :)

Thanks. I'm glad I asked. I've been working on my radiator support and have spend at least 12 hrs, mostly changing things around, and soon ready for the shroud, but still have no idea how i'm going to build that thing !

I did have to change things on the support, more than once. One thing I LOVE about steel work is you can cut it off and re do it.
I wasnt sure either how it was all gonna come together, but I just decided to get some dimensions that I KNEW I needed and work off of that. Took those down to the local steel shop and had them brake the pan. Once I had that, I could massage out the details. I ended up cutting OFF the original brackets I had on the legs in toward the motor and running a piece of angle iron all the way across the top so I could bolt the shroud to it. I already had some angle on the bottom, so that was pretty easy after that. Aside from ME making things more difficult than they need to be.:o

Well, It pays off, your ruck is coming really nice !. I wish I have started right from the begining on mine, but all too late.
One thing I most admit is how well everything is documented, I did not have the oportunity since I'm always rushing to do something,
I'll post something on it, but not as pleasurable to see a built like yours and other fellow mudders!

Thanks for the props!:o
I do work PAINFULLY slow and Im kinda anal about how things go together. One thing Im PARANOID about is being "THAT GUY". You know the one...the dude who just slaps some crap on his rig, basically cobbling it together with not much more than a "trail repair" and EFF's up everyone elses weekend around him when his junk breaks. Yeah...dont wanna be that guy. :ban:
Everyone has their day, but it wont be because I half assed something.

As for the documentation...it keeps ME honest cuz my work is on display to my peers here, and I like to try and "pay it forward" so to speak. I knew NOTHING when I got my first rig in 06'. Everything Im doing NOW is acquired knowledge I got from others here. Hoping to pass it on.

Looks good man.

Wow, I got a little emotional reading that...:crybaby:

:flipoff2:

Jack

Darcie would agree, she says I have the emotional range of a rock...like that's a bad thing.;)

Jack

LOL...Not me. I KNOW when to be grateful. Like when my friend Jack and his wife get a call on a sunday afternoon from a stranded wheeler TWO HOURS away and on a VERY UN FRIENDLY road up, and OFFER to come TOW HIS SORRY, BUSTED ASS HOME!!!!:o

You just dont find that ANYWHERE anymore! That is a TRUE COMMITMENT to the spirit of the community here and in the wheeling world in general and needs to be acknowledged, ENCOURAGED and APPRECIATED! Otherwise, it'll just FALL APART at the seams like the rest of the American fabric. Pay it forward!

Deep and Sappy maybe, but...THAT'S me! Big Ole LUG that I am!:D
