And it felt GREAT too!!
Gawt damn it felt soooooo good to back in a real rig in the dirt and rocks again, even if just for a bit!!!!

Looks fantastic. :flipoff2:

Is that color the same as the at-least-similar fj40 color from the '79+ years?

I would love to see some detail shots of the shackles, spring flatness, steering clearance and the trac bar when it's twisted up like that. I still haven't ever done that despite having driven mine 500 mi and already have the tranny back out for a fix.

If it was me, I'd hit the visible parts of the radiator with a light coat of dark gray primer and get a shiny new TOYOTA logo in the center of the bezel.

Man I miss stupid low :(

remember, when you are in first gear, low, low, it is really easy to break stuff with the skinny pedal.

I am gonna keep a close eye on that, especially with the vortec in it. I'm not a throttle guy to begin with, but I do realize things may be a bit more fragile with the set up that is in place.
I am hoping that with the gear reduction, that will help keep me off the pedal in those harder obstacles.

Nice lookin rig! Glad you got it somewhat figured out!

Needs bigger tires! :)

Lol... Thanks man!!
Tires will have to wait. Soft top is of utmost priority for my first trip in the end of April.

Ed,
Donno on the color. I just like blue. Summit had it for 80 bucks a gal, so...
I'll get some shots of those items listed. When I did flex her out like that, I checked the wrap bar, drive shaft and the tie rod/ drag links. All were clear. I was really concerned with the wrap bar hitting the tank.... Wasnt even close I was relieved to find out.

Took the wife out today. So nice in the open top and no doors!
Gotta get the leaks stopped.

Trans/ t case
Coolant leak at the temp sensor plug
Sag box... It's the top cap???? Wtf??? Can I just pull that off and add some gasket maker??

After that. Figure why the gauges aren't working
Wire some dome lights... Espressomon found these awesome led strips. Gonna do those on the cage.
Wire the radio and build and secure speaker boxes.
Gotta make a stabilizer bracket for the intake tube
Gotta make a bracket for wiper fluid res.
Then....
Work on storage for gear!!! For this coming season, I'll probably just use storage boxes.

Being able to get it out in the dirt for the first time has got to be a good feeling.

Looking very good!! Way to go!!

Amazing!!!
I get out on a very limited basis in my DD Tacoma, but all I would do is think about what I COULD do w/ my 40 and what it will BE like w/ the 40 etc.
I've done enough playing now, and I've gotta get the details squared away so I can really begin enjoying the rig. I've got a good idea (for now) the little issues that need tending to.

So yes... It feels great to have a real rig again to do what I love.

I considered wheeling my tow rig a couple of times cause both of my Cruisers were down. It was a battle.

I wheeled my taco through death valley twice. Granted, it's not that hard of wheeling, but...wheeling none the less!
It did great. Just made me nervous taking my DD. That's the bread and butter I'm still making payments on!

Isn't getting back onto a trail of any kind the best feeling ever?

I spent about eight or so months without a front driveshaft on my truck, and seeing pics of folks here doing their thing with their own vehicles was torture. It's nothing like two years, but it's empathy.
Now get out there, and wheel!

Driveing to the trail wheeling and drivin the same rig home and the to work... Is scary... I had forgotten how scary till I drove Pickle to our customer run Labor day... Makes me miss my trailer:lol:

Yes!!!
Everyone around me was running rubicon, fordice, deer valley etc and I was just at home working, and the timeline kept getting pushed further and further out. That was probably the worst. When I figure I'd be at least testing things out... I was still faaaaaar away for various issues.
I'm just stoked for next season to get back on the rocks again. Feels like I've been paralyzed and now I suddenly can walk again!! :)
