This was actually a lot of fun for me, I haven't done anything this big before.

We need that High Beam relay before the column goes in.

Nice to hear you got most of the rear end hammered out.

We should be able to start testing this week.

Dan... After you left, I had some real issues with that dual weather pack for the tail lights. I'm thinking about bagging those things and just using bullet connectors.
The issue was, that if the crimp wasn't perfect, it wouldn't slot into the weather pack housing on the male side. I burned through the rest of the pins trying to get it right, but it just wouldn't slot into the housing. I got the female connectors on the other side, but. Seems that it should have worked, but.....

Exciting! Great job on the wiring Dan & Keith! It looks great in the photos and even better in person. Can't wait to hear that V8 sing.

Thanks dan. Sorry I missed you sun.

The crimp tool isn't exactly the correct one, I can probably finagle it to work for the few contacts we need crimped though.

I'll stop at RnE and get some more, but I remain a bit skeptical that even you will be Able to make it work. Mine actually came out pretty good and they still wouldn't go.
Soooo I'll get the bullet connectors as well.

I got called into the hospital. It was as bad as you could imagine from what I saw last night. Not good.

Crap. I didn't put that 2 and 2 together. Glad folks like them can count on folks like you. The eyewitness account I read was grim.

Looked like there was a diference in the pictures. What's in your sig?

It was not easy with the bright light from the door. I made a copy and used threshold to create a layer mask. Then I did auto-levels for the darker parts. Finally I used the dodge tool with less-than-perfect results on the skintones.

GIMP is an awesome tool if you know photoshop or have time to learn about layers. The arbitrary rotations and auto-levels are two tools that I could not live without.

In my .sig it says "Thank you very much Toyoda-san".

Have you never seen that movie????
Great flick, and there is a brief shot of a land cruiser (40) in it in the end fight scene. Happens to be approximately the same color as I did mine. :) (tech :))
It's about two guys in high school that are gonna fight at 3 o'clock.

The Cruiser shows up around 2:15;

I never could get the weatherpak connectors down it was fifty fifty on them fitting right. I ended up sodering everthing then shrink wrap them so they are weather tight. The big plug for the dash cluster took 2 days just to get the ends right. keep up the good work

Soldering defeats the purpose of using stranded wire.

And a plug connection doesn't??
A properly crimped connection allows the strands to flex enough to mitigate fatigue.
Don't take my word for it NASA, JEDEC, and JPL have done a metric ton of studies on crimp vs solder. Google away.

So a big thanks to espresso Dan for
Coming down and hangin out w me this evening. He got all the aft weather pack connections done for me.

Thanks man!!!

We keep chipping away at this thing!!!!

Indeed!!!! How many cruiser heads does it take to wire a rig????

Btw, I picked up so Side terminal battery cables for use with the RV terminals. Should work okay, bit I'll let you be the judge.

If you decide you want the proper and exact ID on the lugs just, as I mentioned, buy the lugs (I think R&E carries them and so do some of the auto parts stores in town too) matched to whatever cable you want to use for the size of bolt/stud and we'll crimp them on with my crimper.

Cool!! May do that actually, well see. Seems that starter to switch type connector is pretty hard to find in a red lead.

If you end up needing longer leads than what is contained in the pre-built cable packages you showed me yesterday you can buy welding wire at any of the welding shops for less coin than at say West Marine. Don't get me wrong: West Marine sells great quality wire but holy crap has it gone through the price roof!

And maybe not orthodox but if all you can find in the heavier gauge wire is black colored sheath then I just use red shrink tubing on each lug end (about 3-4") instead of black to identify the hot lead...but I imagine you already know this.

West marine sells the cable and terminals.
