Nicely played sir.

How the EFF are you supposed to mount this ECU!?!?!?!

Cant do s*** till I figure that out. One would think that there would be someone that SELLS mounts for these damn things, but I cant find anything. Quite honestly, I just FLAT DONT WANNA MAKE something either!!!
Stopped by the STEALER today...the mount that is stock wouldnt really work the way that I would want it to.

Upside down under glovebox. Make an aluminum box outa sheet alum. As a cover and screw it on over ecu. Line bottom of glovebox with pad to cover screw tips and keep stuff quiet in the glovebox.

Yeah.... I'm just getting LAZY!!!!:D

What did Howell say about the vss being on the trans tailshaft vs. the t-case output?

The modern ECU's don't care where you mount them, they are weather proof unlike the early verisons, so pretty much mount it where ever it will fit. But I would try and put it behind the dash somewhere just to be safe.

Don't go getting lazy on us now, we have too much invested in this to take shortcuts now... The collective would have you flogged. :flipoff2:

Jack,
When I talked to the guy at howell, he said that the VSS IS on the tail housing on the trans, so there will be NO ISSUE with the ECU in low gear. HOWEVER, I had read in the forums that if the computer is not programmed with the tire size and gearing that would cause an issue...which, now that I think of it...would be the same issue that were discussing. I have a thread on it in the Pirate forum as well.
Also, the shift sensors on the trans...The dont bother with them at Howell. So you were right and the rig will start in all gears. Not sure how I feel about that.:hhmm:
Re. the LAZY...I was hoping that I could BUY a bracket as opposed to making one, which is what I meant by being lazy...
:D

BUT...... My laziness paid off!!!!:bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:
Got outta work early today. Went to the local wrecking yard. I had heard word that there was a FLAT MOUNT ECU bracket that came in the chevy utility vans. Just so happens that they had one and it was GAWT DAMN PERFECT for mounting under the glove box. 16 bucks and Im STOKED!!!
Also, got my power steering lines/ fittings. Went with the re buildable ones from the Parker fittings place.
Got the serpentine belt which is standard since the AC is on its OWN belt and also got a MAP sensor as that was the last thing I was missing.
So got the SAG box mounted, bolted in the front bumper, got the MAP sensor in, got the main harness plug THROUGH the fire wall as well as its fuse block and OBD diag. port.
Had planned on getting the brake lines, but they were outta the stuff needed to make em. They were also rather extravagant, so Ill find the rubber jobbers for simplicity and price.

If you have the old ends parker should be able to make you something for the brake lines in braided line.. they also have the silicone heater hose...

btw looks great.. and I dont see the reason to get the quarters super straight they wont stay that way long... and all that block sanding is a pain...

Excellent. Glad to hear everything is where it should be and doing what it should. You'll be fine with the starting in any gear thing, it will be like a manual. I doubt you will be getting out of it in a gear other than park; so I don't see you parking in the garage, getting out, leaving it in drive, getting up the next day and starting it and driving through a wall...:hillbilly:

Good deal on the ecu mount, and I don't blame you for not wanting to make a mount.

I have a carb in mine and it richens at altitude sometimes causing stalls. Being able to start the engine in gear (700R4) has been very valuable! You just have to pay attention to the shifter position before starting.

Never thought about that. Good point. However with the EFI, I hope I dont have that issue too often.
Guess I'll just have to get used to it.

It might be handy for hill starts too.

You can make a switch for neutral with a light on the dash.:hhmm:

So I got the ECU mounted in its location. there are a couple things that I need to mount on the fire wall and get grommits for, but for the most part...the motor is wired!:bounce::bounce2:

ALSO....My chassi harness came today!!!!
So for the next few days, Ill get the fenders in, the radiator, etc in so I know how to route the chassi wiring.
Stop me if any of you see anything, cuz Im going by the seat of my pants here.

BTW...about how much space is needed to get an OBD code reader into the diagnostic port?
The way its routed, to mount it UNDER the dash where its accessable, it ends up RIGHT NEAR the cage...
