I just orderd a set. From the pics it seems that the OEM lense (second vehicle pics) let the light shine further than the aftermarket lense does (first vehicle pics).
I noticed that too, i'm really curious if other pics will confirm... maybe it was just that picture?

You can import a lot of 50 for less then $10/each. Its only a matter of time the price will be down.
I'd love to see a before/after from the vantage of the driver, looking out the rear hatch window, straight back. Or at least an "after" pic of that. 
I found 2 ebay listings for them from CHINA and only one has them just a bit cheaper but with shipping and a 20+ day delay in shipping I dont see and advantage.
The ebay pages have some aditional info on the lights... Not really sure if they are the same build, but they seem to use the same Cree Chip.

I know they are LEDs with big heatsinks, but has anyone left these on for like 5 minutes? Do they heat up the lenses or the dividers between the other taillights? Just curious.
I had them on for about 5 minutes and I did not feel any heat on the outside of the light housing. I was wondering about this too, I have a Surefire G2 flashlight which can get pretty hot if it is on for a longer period.

Maybe you could rig up a toggle switch in the rear/cargo area and use them as temp camping lights. Atleast for looking for beers

Does the rear/backup ligths activate via a switch in the gear selector or via ECU? I'm think I have another use for these.

But here is mine (no cheating.. I had my thumb over the flash). No other outside lights on, there was just a little moonlight but very dark out.
