Welcome Alan! If you can't make the Gap run in the morning, the next planned wheeling event is AZ Rocks;

OK, I'll check back more this weekend but how about a roll call
me and Zoe and at least one coworker will be meeting at the S/E corner of Ft. Lowell/Country Club at 7:30-7:45 to caravan up to Oracle and meet the rest of you at 8:30.
Who all is in?
import silvia?
fj40frk?
Tools?
spike?

I just realized you might be asking if I were in for the caravan. No, Tools and I are meeting Shotts at 8 AM at the Oracle meeting spot to look at his truck. We'll see you guys there at 8:30. Hopefully you see this, or I didn't cause you to think I'd be meeting you at Ft. Whatever and CC. See you guys tomorrow!

My thanks to Spike for getting up EARLY and assisting me with my truck.

Same thanks to Tools for his input as well even though he slept late. :D

You two have made me re-think my entire game plan and I believe for the better. THANK YOU! It is driveable and could be a money pit so we'll use it on the trail and in between doing the other things we'll need to service any how. Eventually the culprit will bare it's teeth.

Meanwhile, I ran the Catalina side of the Gap and discovered how much the front axle does need re-building. It kept popping more and more on the driver's side as we drove. It did really well though and I luv the added height. So, all this will benefit me in the long run.

HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT TIME ON THE TRAIL! PICS! PICS!

Why not rebuild the front axle while it was apart for the gears? That is the only reason I haven't gotten my gears done yet. I am planning on doing axle rebuilds, chromo axles and birfs, and brakes. So I have been collecting parts.

Awesome day!!!

What a great run!!! We had 8 rigs out there! That was sweet!!
4 80's
1 62
2 40's
1 GMC P/U

Kevin(Tools), Ben(spike), Rob(turtle), and Claudia(dsrtrdr) came from PHX. We had me, Phil(fj40frk), James(importsilvia) and Fred from Tucson. This was one of Phils first outings in his 40 and he ran it all with little trouble. What an awesome day to break-in your rig Phil! Spike made the step his puppy, James gave it hell, and I gave it 3 tries but just couldn't get over(need bigger tires).
Now I remember why I like that trail so much. Even all dried out and dusty it is still a great all day run. I haven't downloaded my camera yet but I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came out and I look forward to wheeling with you all again. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. Post up the rest of you! :cheers:

Zoe says hi to Tiffany!!

Does the trail seem to be getting easier to anyone else? I was up there last week, and the Catalina side really seems filled in....and the step doesn't seem as tall as it was a year ago...pretty much the whole trail seemed easier than I remember. Is it just my imagination, or did you guys feel the same way?

After stopping by BMAN's house, I finally made it home to FH shortly before 11. I am too tired to upload the pics now. What a great day! :bounce: Thanks all and particularly to Kevin (Tools) for excellent spotting, and for removing whatever flex the frame had :D

Great day, great people, great wheeling.

Was never on the step before, but the great big huge non-negotiable drop towards the end of the trail and several holes in the trail after it were filled with rocks that weren't there 3-4 months ago. Still some pretty knarly challenges along the trail. Worth the 2.5 hour drive.

I had to travel for lockers/gears. 4WParts has a great locker/gear guy but they're not known for Toyota axle re-builds.

First off, thanks to Alvin for setting up and leading the run!:cheers: I had a GREAT time, hope everyone else did too! Very clean trail for the use it sees, zero breakage despite valant efforts by some!:D

This trail, like all trails has changed overtime, the Oracle side was graded, a couple of good rain storms would improve it, providing some washout challenges. There are more bypasses, that makes it a better club trail allowing a better mix of trucks, but some good obstacles were lost. I think everyone found enough challenges to have a good day.

A few pix, more latter.

Hey Kev. Did you give the Step a shot yesterday?

Nope, I value my rockers!:hillbilly

I just wanted to say thankyou to everyone on the trip. Not sure I could have made it all the way through without Kevin spotting for me. I also got alot of great ideas for my 40 from Claudia. I was glad to see another 40 out there. Thanks for showing me such a great time for my first trip with the club!!!!

You guys are very impressive drivers and I learned quite a bit from all of you!!

I hope to do it again soon.

Bah, 6" lift negates the need for sliders. Mostly. I didn't scrape any metal on the Step. Who wants pristine rockers, anyway? And wheel opening flares, those just look silly. Glossy paint is overrated too. Straight body panels, just something else to worry about. Glass is nice, if you have to have it...

I think that trail is a great run and challenge for many. It seems easier to me than it was last time I went, but that was a year ago and I have a lot more seat time now and a few more mods to the rig. :cool:
