I'm reading these threads from UAE and other places and so many have Center Console Fridge and even rear AC. It appears that some of the extra connectors in front of the center console are apparently for this center console fridge.

So, my question, is this center console fridge available to be installed into the US 80's?

If so, where do you get them?

Agree with Douglas....seems goofy at first but gets good and cold and has a fairly substantial capacity. I wouldn't imagine they'd be something I would go through the trouble of fitting though.

Living in Florida, it's hot, humid, and I could always use a cold drink on the road, or while camping. That's the only reason I'd consider one. Just curious, are they essentially the same size as the center console? Have to give G&S Cruiser Parts a call.

There are threads on this with some good info.

There are separate refrigerant lines and other components that make it the worlds most expensive fridge if you want to buy new parts. I also doubt that all of the parts are still available. Finding an HDJ81 with these parts and someone willing to strip them out and send to you would be your best option, but that seems unobtaniim.

My opinion; buy just about any commercially available fridge (ARB, Engle, Edgestar, etc) and get a much larger, much cheaper product that keeps running when the engine is off.

My only thought is that I'd like to have it in the Center console area. I utilize all the rear seats with kids, so the bigger ARB ones aren't a good option, or at least not that I've seen. But maybe I need to look harder for something smaller in size.

Wow, that's the perfect solution I think. Do you have one of those in yours, or just familiar with it?

No real need for me as I travel mostly solo with a Waeco CF-50 behind my seat and never want the additional heat in the cab. I have always thought it would be the s***z in the right vehicle.

Damn,, another mod on the list!!! Super idea. I would probably paint it to match the oak color in my 80 interior.

You got me thinking. What do ice cream trucks use to power their freezers?

Maybe dry ice. Or I know they have freezers where you freeze an insulated plate thing and it stays cold all day kind of like a home ice cream machine.

They both work well if you have a good insulated fridge or bag.

I found the Waeco CDF-11 for under $300, purchased, done. Can't wait to get it and mount it where the center console was.

My plan is to mount to a bracket that bolts to floor. Then thick plastic sheet the size of the unit, then 6 1/2" spacers that will hold the cooler. In the 1/2" space I will insert frozen insulated plate that will cool (somewhat) the base of the unit for 12 hours or so, adding to it's ability to stay ice cold. Then strap it down tight and enjoy the dual cup holders with ice cold drinks!

Finally!

mdandashly - Wow, great idea, cool it with solar!

You should definitely do a build thread and post a step by step. If its within my abilities I'll def do it.

As for solar power I think there's a related thread buried somewhere deep in this forum. Should be relatively easy and affordable to mount a small plate to give it power.

30 watts isn't much. shouldn't need even that big a panel.
Anyone know the output of the solar roof option on a Prius and what they claim it does for you?
