Went out today and bought a new cb and antenna and was able to find a local shop that specializes in cb's. The place is called MUD SHACK (how appropriate) and is at 6512 ElCajon Blvd.

I really wanted the Uniden 510 and they had plenty of them and I also picked up a Wilson "little wil" magnetic antenna. They also have a shop in SD that specialize in Ham equipment for when I decide to go 2M.

I also got my CB installed today, I was actually going to post some pics but I haven't taken any yet. I got the radio at walmart it's a cobra just like Mark's, I got the antenna at fry's and I installed that on my rear bumper, been eves dropping it's kinda funny what people say some times

Ulyses, glad that worked out for you! Dan, is that the CB that goes into the ash tray? Sounds like you did a good job.

On the topic I was checking out Gene's CB antenna that clamps onto the rear hatch and I was kinda digging that. Chime in if you see this Gene. Curious of where you got it and how much. I would like a permanent antenna rather than a mag antenna.

Yep, the Uniden 510 is the one you can put in the ashtray slot as shown on the Slee site tech page. It was about $20 more than the Cobra at Walmart but I read good things about it and liked the option of installing it in the ashtray.

Yeah, i have been there in the past too!

Did you deal with a really grumpy old dude that turns out to be super nice and helpful?

My experience there was VERY VERY weird, but he helped me out big time and spent over an hour installing and tuning my antenna

The whole time complaining about how no one understand SWR and bla bla bla

Very Interesting place!

That's the guy. I asked about 2M products and he pulls out a used hand held ICOM unit from under the counter he wanted to sell for $135. Said he was a photographer for the Washington Post and was using the ICOM unit during the fires.

Weird guy but seemed to know his stuff. At least I didn't get the treatment I got at Sears when I asked where the timing lights are and the kid thought I was talking about a light timer for Xmas lights.

I was standing in the middle of the tool department.

If you're planning on using an external speaker, you will need to re-design how the plug comes out the back of the unit as well. If you look at how flush the unit is at the bottom of the Slee article, that's about how mine sits. After performing the mods listed in the article, I put the unit back together. Just to have to take it all apart again to address the speaker plug.

Also, in contrast to the article, I fabbed up some mounting brackets from car stereo backstrap instead of using the friction mounting method. It's solid as rock in there now.

FWIW another thought on the external speaker. I am going to give this method a try. I currently have my 2M and CB sharing an external speaker which is causing interference problems so I am going to try using the factory dash speakers so as to not have to add more clutter.

Thanks Mark. I put that together w/ some scrap Al I had laying around the garage. There is a "Bandi Mount" that is sold through All Pro Off Road that fits that hinge like a glove. I just didn't want to wait for UPS.

You say it fits the hinge? So is it a part exclusively for an FJC?
I don't know your rig, so I would have to say yes it's exclusive to the FJC.

But thats not to say you can't fab one for your rig.
