CarPlay works in a 2020 Land Cruiser

Tindie now has the power/data splitters in stock. I just bought a few for testing.

I read the FAQ for the BeatSonic device, and it says that your phone will charge, however it doesn't say if it will fast charge. My assumption is it will charge at the same rate as the NaviPlus unit as the hardware looks similar. I would love to be proven wrong.

Something I noticed in the video above is that when Erik (?) used voice control, the Google Assistant voice didn't seem blown out like on my NaviPlus. When I say "blown out" I mean the volume of the voice reply is way too high and sounds distorted because of it. Every other sound coming out of the NP is at an appropriate volume, just not the Assistant voice. Think of it this way, there are several volumes in an Android phone, a volume for music and other notifications, a volume (gain) for the Assistant voice, and a main volume that levels all sounds coming out of the NP. The main volume and music/notification volume are fine. But the Assistant volume is way too high. With the main volume being correct, this has the effect of making the obviously blown out audio (gain set too high) of the Assistant play at normal volume. Hopefully that makes sense.

Installed my Naviplus unit yesterday. Not too bad of an install. I'm slow and it took me about 4 hours.

My steering wheel controls do not work (I paid for that option) so I emailed Naviplus support. But other than that it works great. It's good to have CarPlay in my 2021 Landcruiser.....something I've had in literally every other car I've owned in the past decade. LOL

If someone bought the whole shebang, including steering wheel controls and took a pic of all the wiring and modules I'd love to see it. I'm wondering if they just forgot to include that option when they shipped it. I bought 2 identical units at the time so I'll need them to send me 2 if they did indeed forget.

Did you follow the SWC programming instructions? They’re included in this post : https://forum.ih8mud.com/attachments/210e4447-2e29-4a96-8c1f-b9face472286-jpeg.2667936/

It says on the BeatSonic landing page that fast charging is not supported.

Ya know, it was weird. I never got prompted with that screen and pressing buttons on the remote did nothing. The CarPlay function pretty much worked as soon as I plugged it all in and switched to AUX on the Toyota main screen.
Correct. You have to intentionally navigate to the setup for SWC as not all units are purchased with that option.

Ah I see. That makes sense, I just could not get to the setup no matter what I tried.

This is the setting that has to be changed. It makes no mention of it being the SWC, but it is.

Ok. So the problem with not being able to enter the setup screen was all my fault. I had the IR sensor stashed behind a plastic dash panel. Pulled it out and now I can get into the settings. Changed it to “Netplay” and now I can use the “skip” button on the steering wheel to change a song. But the phone buttons don’t hang up a call.

whats the overall experience with Naviplus? I've heard the audio when on wireless is not good? I just received my unit in the mail. I ordered with steering wheel controls and wireless but have not tried to install yet as I am out of town. I'm fairly handy and like to work on my old cruisers but the 200 is a different beast. Install doable by a novice? Still debating taking it to a pro or just doing it myself. Sometimes doing it yourself gets better results.

Not sure if the previous post about settings resolved your issue, but if you still need pics let me know.

I have a Naviplus unit - install wasn't a big deal. The only issue I have is that phone audio sucks for the party on the other end of the call (sounds good to me, terrible to them).

@residualboulders I can't think of anything I don't like at the moment. Personally I don't notice a dip in audio quality, but I guess my expectations are set differently. I recently got rid of a 2018 Volvo XC90 with the Bowers & Wilkins stereo. It was by far the most insane sound system I'd ever had in a vehicle, so when I heard the LC's system I already expected less. So any audio difference between wireless vs wired Carplay doesn't bug me.

If you've ever connected wiring harnesses of any kind and popped interior panels out you'll be fine doing it yourself. The one mistake I made was to hide the little RF receiver behind the dash. The remote wouldn't connect. Once I pulled it out and left it exposed I could connect to the unit and make the necessary change(s).

I thought the audio quality was mediocre at best. I wasn't able to compare it to the wired audio quality because the USB plug wasn't working on the Naviplus version I received. I sent it back to Naviplus. They then contacted me saying that the USB chip on my unit was defective, and that they had a newer version. But by then I had already bought the EC Offroad unit. I like it way better. No dropouts or pops, and the audio quality is considerably better. Volume levels are also very consistent vs the Naviplus.

The installation is surprisingly easy once you get past the fear of tearing into your dashboard. The EC Offroad is also easier to install since there's only one box vs. two for the Naviplus plus it doesn't have that silly IR cable. There are a few YouTube videos describing the installation process. Oh and I installed the microphone in one of the pop-out pieces on the dash instead of taking the A pillar and headliner apart (it seems like a good compromise to me).

I think the hardest part of installing one of these units is getting the left and right vents (on either side of the display, that is) removed. Mine are pretty tight (even after being taken apart a few times) and there isn't much to grab to pull them out with. Other than that, the dash disassembly / reassembly process is really pretty easy. Just take it slow and use proper trim removal tools to avoid scratching / denting any panels.

On another topic, I thought @Eric Sarjeant was going to post his thoughts on comparing Naviplus and the EC Offroad unit. Unless I missed it, that hasn't happened yet.

I agree that the hardest part is taking those damn air vents off. I've now opened it up 3 times and it does get easier, but not by a lot.

Hardest part for me was not scratching the trim on the headunit. I had big rag towels wrapped around everything I took off and that worked well.

I received my Tindie units last night. I tested it on the NaviPlus with a Pixel 4XL. It did not work. The Tindie page for the splitter even mentioned that Pixel 4 didn't work, but I was hoping that didn't include XL. However, I think these would work on a newer iPhone (based on the Tindie page).

on our second xc90 with bowers and wilkins (wife's car) and you're right, that sounds system is pretty amazing. Although i don't think my 2021 200 is that bad, not as good for sure, but not terrible. My last tundra however, terrible.

are you using android or carplay? not sure that it matters, but curious. Seems like i read somewhere android was better on the EC offroad, apple on the naviplus - at least that was someone's opinion somewhere.

I have only used iPhone's with the EC Offroad unit, and audio quality has been very good.
