Can you Turbo a 3FE?

Wow, very nice!

I usually go over to disney about every weekend during the summer. I would love to see that rig in person sometime!

Also, would you be interested in making another manifold for the 3FE? I only live about an hour or so from tulsa, so I could leave my 80 there for awhile if you'd be interested.

Thanks!

So im a bit confused, is the stock ECU alone running that setup?

The FMU interveens and raises the fuel pressure as the engine is transitioning from vacume into boost. Once positive pressure is achieved, the ECU only reads wide open throttle. The FMU steadily increases fuel pressure in the fuel rail as the boost rises. A bleed valve on the FMU allows a moderate level of tuning for the fuel mixture.

The FMU is mechanical!

Wow, the fab looks great. Anxious to hear if it is really worth it in a couple of months after you have all the kinks worked out. Let me know how overall power, mpg, engine temp, have changed when you get it all worked out.
Nice job.

Currently running 4psi, might bump it one more. Vehicle runs great and seems to consume LESS fuel. Use to, the truck would have to rely on the tranny kick down to move out of its own way. Now, throttle response is greatly improved and it feels like a larger displacement engine. That is really the result I was seeking. You only have to use about 1/4 throttle to match the old WOT position.

New Pipe

It has recently been brought to my attention that perhaps my charge pipe could have been a little shorter and taken a more direct path. Not being one to dissapoint, I built a new one.:)

Seems like you could have gone larger with the piping. No? Just seems small looking at it here.

Very impressive! I'll take one!

I'd love to know what the final numbers are regarding hp/torque gains.

Did the 3FE really come with that much more power than the 2F??

me too I'm very interested in the hp/torque gain!, and yes the 3fe did came with 30hp more and 20lbs more.

great job by the way it looks that everything it's fitting well.

i dont know if this is possible but if someone could make the manifold for the turbo it would deff make the conversion a hell of a lot easier for people with very little fab skills... like me heh

How does the air flow meter and the ECU cope with the turbo?

Have to agree with the above posts nice bit of fabrication work.

Any problems with the extra heat too?

Thanks for the props guys. As for the ECU, once the engine transitions from vacume to boost, the computer just gets a WOT signal from the Air Flow Meter. The mechanical Rising Rate Regulator just increases the fuel pressure via/boost from there. The computer is sending the same pulse width to the injectors, but the higher fuel pressure is forcing more fuel through. This type of setup is good for up to about 8psi. Running 91 octane just to be on the safe side. I had also advanced the timing a little before this project and never changed it back. It's been pretty warm here and I havn't heard any pinging yet.
