Can you still purchase an OEM charcoal canister (Denso Vapor Canister)?

Seems like the dimensions fit, "8.8 x 5.6 x 5.4 in"

The illustration shows three connections on top of the canister. Is it a good guess that they moved the bottom overflow line up to the top? Or what is the third top connection here if it's not the overflow?

I have the AC Delco 215-153 for about 2 years now. It has also cured my excessive tank pressure. There has been no gas smell or any issues that I have ever noticed.

If I remember, the canister is slightly larger in diameter than the stock one. To fit, you just need a longer bolt and nut to get the oem clamp to fit. I also replaced the bottom vent hose with a slightly longer one and routed the vent hose to the top of the new canister. Looks and works well.

Thanks for that report. Sounds like it should work just fine.

The FZJ100/105 use 77704-60290
and it also looks similar.

Has anyone tried one of these as an alternative for the 80? Wondering if it might be 'close enough'. . . . . 🤔

I just went with one of the GM models, used a longer bolt in the bracket and called it a day. Problem fixed.

Mine works good, even passed Nazi CA smog this week. Just have to shave off the plastic bracket and use a smaller diameter hose to the valve.
Would be good to know which one you are referring to. Unless I missed it I never saw what you put in. Is it the one Onur just commented on: 77704-60290?

Just checked: I've had the VC-120 canister in since 2015, that's three emissions inspections.

I also used the AC DELCO GM canister. It's snug but it'll fit with minimal fuss. I used a few beefy zipties and it's been great ever since.

Chasing down a P401, anyone try The FZJ100/105 ( 77704-60290 ) canister with success?

The PO put in the vc120 (nla) many moons ago and I see the AC Delco 215 is available but I'm a die hard Toyota fan boy and will be keeping my 80 series forever ;-)

Awesome thanks @Kernal

@BillyGoatMTB - I ran the Toyota OE canister for the 1FZ 105 (77704-60290) and never really got much relief. Ended up pulling it out, reinstalled the original, and venting to atmosphere through a small fuel filter. No pressure buildup and been running nearly 12 months without any fumes. Houston doesn't exactly check the box for elevation, but the 100F+ temps over the last month didn't phase it during regular daily driving. I'm also not tagged in Kalifornia...

Partsouq had them in stock but availability was limited when I grabbed mine last summer - holler if you're interested, mine is still like new. Other option is to drill out the BB and so it's always 'open'. There are multiple threads on that.

Nice write-up @Kernal - I was going to flush off the side plastic moulding, but never got that far. Ran it temporarily with some zip ties but the pressure remained. Back to the original and an open filtered vent line.

Awesome, thanks for the info, I landed a 105 canister last night, I'll try it out. I also landed both vacuum switches under the intake. I tested him just a few minutes ago when I rebuilt the engine but now the whole system will be new other than the actual EGR valve which my understanding is they don't go bad.

What did you folks do with the breather hose, attach it to the top and run it under the truck or just let it breath from the top?

I'd have to check. I don't remember.

I have the Dorman evap installed! Took all of 40 min and I have both brackets connected, the lower wiring did not impeded the install. I pulled out the breather hose and saved it. The OEM (25yr old) unit was HEAVY! 56oz's wreaked of gas and the new one was 25oz's. I weighed it! I also have video that I will post to my YT channel when I get the chance. Dorman unit works fine, starts fine, runs fine, no codes, will keep the thread updated.
