Can somebody make these for the 80?

What do you guys think, would there be a market/interest for these light brackets? And more importantly, can it work on an 80 (not near my truck to check)?

I think they'd come in real handy for driving out in the wilderness at night

I'd be down. I've been debating the whole bumper/roof light situation. And this would be a good alternative to mounting a rack with a light on it. Save some green backs too.

I'm shocked SoCalFrank hasn't already been working on this. No reason why it can't be done.

I had actually sent him an email right after posting this thread :)

Hood reflection would sucks, just say'n

How? They'd be pointed off to the side. Anybody running these brackets would want the lights pointed off to the sides of the vehicle. Can't imagine them being too useful if they're were pointed straight ahead.

My buddy had some PIAA lights mounted like this on his jeep. Made a ton of difference on midnight mountain runs.

You have to consider the rake of the windshield they make the lights set near the a pillar and offset them towards the outer edge.

The biggest hurdle I see is mounting since our 80s don't have hinged windshields.
Not to say it can't be done, but to do it fashionably, and functionally I think mounting to the hood hinges would be best. Installation would be kind of tricky for one person, and those without confidence in their wrenching skills, but I could make a set easily enough.

I don't follow. These 4Runner brackets mount to the hood hinges, not on the pillar. I would think they could be made exactly like CBI's brackets, but for the 80. If only CBI gave two craps about the 80 market, we could have all these cool parts from them too

Well there is a bolt for the fender you could tap into. And when you open the door that area frees up it doesn't pinch. I know it's only one bolt but I'd imagine if you could work something out to where a few bolts would have to come off between the fender and cowl and make a solid mount there and it would basically stick out near the mirror.

And just to add, the metal doesn't have to be terribly thick. These light/antenna mounts held my 200 pounds on on foot.

I've wondered about this in the past too after seeing jeeps primarily. I'm interested.

Had some like that on a Heep w/HID's(3,200 lumens). Hood reflection wasn't near as bad as I thought it'd be due to the beam still being 'tight' that close(w/in 5') of light housing. Don't let the fear of hood reflection keep from this choice, if it becomes 1.

I missed that they were for a 4runner on the original post, got side tracked by gears turning I guess and somehow thought jeep bracket. Sorry about that.

It's definitely doable. If there's enough interest I could fab up a set and see what you guys think.

I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 a set for un finished steel, and probably $180 for black powder coated. Both prices before shipping.

If 20 people are interested. I'll make a limited run, and go from there.

I'd be in for a Ben.

Ouch! Yes I'm thrifty so I'd be out for that price. I KNOW LC's & Heeps are way different but the ones for my Heep were $36 & they weren't the run 'run of the mill' mounts because those wouldn't fit the HID's I had. They were made specifically 'deep' so the big rear of the HID's wouldn't hit the windshield(something you'll want to keep in mind when you make them).

Thanks for the input.

I understand that not everyone will justify the cost, but I'm likely not going to make thousands of these, if I make any at all.

As production of any one item increases the more efficient, and inexpensive the manufacturing process should become. Building materials become less expensive, research and development becomes less expensive, labor (to an extent) becomes less expensive etc.

I accepted a challenge, and will succeed in producing a quality product at a reasonable price if the demand meets my criteria to justify the expense, and time that a project like this would necessitate.

Thanks to all involved whether purchase interest, developmental input, or otherwise. I'm anxious to see the outcome of this thread!

Sincerely, Dale

I may have mis understood your post. If you were looking to do this venture by all means I'll step out of the way. If you were wanting someone to make a set for you then I will do so for free if the 20 or more interests are made. Sincerely, Dale
