Slowandsteady BJ,

Love the rack, especially the low profile. Can't get mine in the garage with the rack on.

Also, is your username what I think it is, or do I need to get my mind out of the gutter.

it's not.
you should look up the differences between a bj60 vs an hj60 vs an fj60.

It could be interpreted as a "double entendre". Its meant to be a bit humorous. Any 3b pushing a Sixty on 37's is going to be slow and steady!

thinking of using 2 sets of fj cruiser crossbars that i have, to slap together a roof rack looking like this. I think i posted in a thread somewhere on here already.

Heres mine that I made from electrical conduit. It had an upper loop but took it off because the roof box didn't fit well and it fits into the garage without it.

I like the factory ones myself . I recently got a 60 that had a gutter mount rack on it for a few years and the gutter had rotted out in all the spots where it touched down . Maybe it wasn't tight at some point ?

I used left over pipe from a handrail project. The long term plan was to bolt mounts to the body with a Z bend to clear the gutter at the B, C, and D pillars. Very strong.

I had this made by a friend for about $600. Fits my tent perfectly. The holes make it easy to strap just about anything or anyone to the roof in just a few seconds.

The only roofrack I ever had. Sold some years ago. 100% custom.

I made this several years ago. It works well, is quiet, holds a shovel and high lift and has captured nuts for the rod box, storage box and kayak mount.

The holes in the aluminum allow tie down points while keeping a flat deck.

The jack mounts in front of the shovel behind the wind deflector.

For someone with Zero experience would it be worth it to build one or just buy one pre built?
If I had the money I would have bought one already done. The one I made was cheap and does the trick when needed.

This is the route I went. Found the Thule gutter mounts and bars used at a junk yard, off of a totaled SUV.
