So I figured instead of posting all over the place I would consolidate and just post everything here. My goal is an expo rig, but being a poor kid in college it'll probably be awhile.

I bought the 60 last year. Living in NC I stumbled upon a killer deal in KY. and made the trip one very early morning.....

And with the emptying of my bank account I was the new owner of a 1985 Fj60! My dad's dakota handled the load pretty dang well(thank the Lord for V8s).

The guy I bought the truck from had it for only a week, wanted to strip it, but thought the interior and body was too good to take apart. Looking at the records it was from FL, but looks like the owner spent some time in Michigan. The truck when I got it was at 193,000 something miles. Supposedly been sitting in the PO's front yard for 15ish years....
It wouldnt idle and we knew something was wrong with the carb. Which led to this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/getting-it-road-worthy-whats-wrong-with-the-carb.813990/
The root of the problem ended up being a terribly rusted fuel tank a carb which needed rebuilding.
In the process also found an issue with the alternator-
Oh and I got new tires!(wow what a ride difference) -

Before I got the new tank in I drove it after our first freeze to find out that there was 0 anti freeze in the system and blew a pipe and over heated the engine in the process....

The smoke pouring everywhere was terrifying, but pretty epic looking...
But now for the tank swap, got a nice tank from one of the mud members and it's served me well since.

Old tank out..
and the new tank....

Then right after I got it in I booked it to see my friend in Maryland. First time I ever drove it on the freeway, but she handled great, and got fantastic gas mileage. Had to pull over once... my carb got clogged(a few leftovers from the old gas tank) but after that it was a smooth trip. Got to play in the snow a little bit too-

While all this was happening I had been having problems with my rear taillights(as of right now, I still do), to make it up there I ended up having to duct tape to glow sticks to light up my license plate. Getto, but it worked!

When I got back from the trip found out I had an issue withe harmonic balancer: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/problem-or-no.835407/
Long story short, it took awhile, but I got it replaced with a 3f-e crank pulley.
Old pulley-

Then found out my smog pump was busted so I went the cheap route and gutted it, and then put it back on :)
It was chalked Full of grease though?

Right now I'm in the process of refreshing my steering... new tie rods, new drag ends, and new damper.

Looks super clean. Nice 60, and good base-lining you're doing to it. These repairs will be what makes it last forever.

Beno or Cruiserdan

You can find similar clips in the "Help" or "Ididit" section of your local autozone/orilies/pepboys/Kragen etc..

They are just the clips that sheet metal screws screw into.

recent projects include adding a stainless steal battery tray.
yeah thats my old "tray" if you can even call it that.
I was too excited to put it in so I dont have any pictures of it in the truck yet, but it looks great.

Going a few months back. I did a total front end repair. Kept the bars but got a new stabilizer, tie rods and drag ends. Got a kit from Cruiserparts. Was perfect. Though the old stuff was stuck on there good, had to use heat and a lot of hammering to get off. In the end the best trick was having two people hit it at the same time.....
This is the old front end-

and because I forgot to take a picture with it back together, here it is on the car:

Got some 62 mirrors for it, deffintly cheaply made but they do the job well. upload_2015-8-8_13-9-50.webp
Got some new headlights from Sylvania.
Sounded proofed the rear quater panels and rear wheel wells with some Second Skin:

Drove it today for the first time and there noticeable difference in sound from the rear of the truck.

And added a Cig lighter: First wiring mod I've done so I'm pretty pleased
