post up details on how the wires are connected to the alternator...common issue on how to do that... what wires go to what terminals..etc.

As far as the connector wiring - I didn't do anything other than plug in the alternator connector on my new harness. It seems to be taking care of whatever needs to happen. It's all magic to me.

The alternator connections on my old harness are not connected to anything. I did not use them at all.

The voltmeter magically just works when you reconnect the Toyota harness to power. I read where it should show a lower voltage than what is actually happening, but mine seems to be close to what the OBD scanner is showing.

As far as the big wire - I used the GM wire that came with the motor to reconnect to the battery. It was the perfect length, I just had to cut the weird terminal down and drill a new hole.

My new harness main power wire (fusible linked) is connected to the big lug on the alternator instead of the battery. It makes for a very clean install.

I got my front driveshaft (cut down FJ62 front) from Georg yesterday. They did super clean work and even put a nice paint job on it.

It just almost goes in. I will need to have a little conversation with the corner of the transmission pan and ask it to suck in its gut a little to make room for the DS.

I've also had to accept the reality that I don't have enough clearance between the oil pan and the front diff, even with the Camaro pan. I don't see how I could have avoided it. Between the three of us installing it, we think we found the sweetest spot.

So, I've ordered another new one that will have a little liposuction done to that side. Buying a new one will keep me operational up until the pan swap, and make for a cleaner weld.

Everyone I talked to about welding it either expressed concern that it already held oil or just flat out refused to touch a used pan.

Used ones fetch a pretty penny on eBay, and mine looks new, so I should be able to get all of my money back. Ebayers don't seem to know about the low prices and free shipping at superchevyperformance.com.

This will be the easiest route to full (or as close as I can get to it) front axle articulation.

Other than that, my list is down to:

- fan shroud (hasn't been an issue yet at 55-60 degrees ambient)
- custom AC hoses and system recharge
- rear shoulder belts for the chirrens. I have a set & trim pieces from a 62.
- wire the check engine light to old choke light.
- put the finishing touches on the rear crossmember

It is fully drivable right now.

Damn Mud. Didn't see the to-do list.

I bought a custom oil pan from a guy on Pirate that makes them smaller just for this reason. Also puts gates in them so the pickup doesn't starve.

Can't remember who made them

Yeah, if I turn my stock shroud upside down, it's almost... almost... a perfect fit. I'll cut a new hole, add a hoop, and fill in the gaps.

I haven't looked much at custom pans, but they were all $400 or more when I looked. This one is perfect if I shave some off the passenger side. I should only be out the $$$ needed to weld it up once I sell my gently used one. There's a hot rod shop down in the S'haven that said he could do it. I'll take the truck, the pan, and my idea of what needs to happen and turn him loose. That strategy seemed to work good with the radiator and exhaust.

I just met THE a/c hose guy. I've asked around and called around, and everyone keeps referring to some guy named "Mike". I called him a while back and he sounded kinda sketchy so I kept asking around. But even the hydraulic hose shop said "theres this guy that works out of his truck...". They were talking about Mike.

He's totally sketchy but once you meet him you know he's the man. He's completely mobile and builds everything on the spot. It's like setting up a drug deal. He just came by to take a look at my stuff today. I'll end up with all new hoses all the way around. Two of them go back exactly like stock. He'll cut the old ends off and braze to new crimps and build with all new hose. The only hiccup is finding the fittings that go into the compressor. He wants the real deal, no adapter blocks. It should look like a factory job.

Some bling from @beno showed up today!

The only ugly yellow plastic left is the brake master reservoir :hmm:

I also had to replace the rubber hose connecting the filler neck and the gas tank. About half-way through the months of sitting, a squirrel chewed a small hole in the old one and drained out about half my gas, one little drip at a time.

I finally ran enough gas out of the tank to replace the hose. Kinda glad that happened actually. This is much nicer than the old rubber.

I just filled it up now that gas will stay in. I'll get some mpg numbers this week.

My OBD phone dongle came in too. iPhones have to use a wi-fi version because, Apple. I was checking out the tach in the app and even keeping the rpms under 2000 pulls you along pretty good.

Some data:

My transmission temp after this morning's drive 8mi/25 mins/city driving/51 degrees ambient got to a max of 147. It was slowly rising the entire drive.

The engine gets up to temp fast and holds steady at a max of 194-195. I wonder what the outside temps need to be to require the shroud? (Not that I want to put it off any longer than I have to.)

Here's what my factory temp & voltage gauge read for comparison.

That works for me! It's exactly what I was after.

I'll keep an eye on the trans temps as the weather warms up. Once I'm satisfied that I have adequate cooling, I probably won't check it very often. I think I'll skip the scangauge completely.

I got this dongle off Amazon...

...and the DashCommand app for the phone. I had to buy an additional bundle of PIDs to get the trans temp. That might be how all the phone apps are. Mark's didn't show trans temp either.

I haven't played with it too much yet. I need to customize which gauges it shows. It does way more crap than I ever need.

I used the guy in the truck named mike. He brazed some hose and metal piece that i screwed up on the 100.

I met him in a parking lot somewhere near summer/n. parkway.

That is him! He came up to my office to check it out, and will do the work in the comfort of my carport. But I like the idea of meeting him on a dirty part of Summer Ave.

Mike is the stoner JimC of AC hoses. He is the man. The hose whisperer.

Those ALDL dongle interfaces are cool....I know they work on various phones...I assume they would work if the apps also ported over to the IPAD or andrioid tablet...? Anyone know for sure.

I set up the gauges that I want to see in the app. Needle & digital readout.

My tires and gears were programmed into my truck computer, so it's interesting to compare the speedo to the VSS readout.

They pretty much match overall, but not throughout the whole range. Close though.

I got out on the interstate today. This is EXACTLY what I was going for. It is super happy cruising around 75-80. That's also where it is at its smoothest and quietest. The tires and interior squeaks & rattles were the loudest things.

Plenty of power at speed. If you want to pass, give it a little gas... it picks up speed nicely without even downshifting. If you want to PASS, then mash the motor:grinpimp:

Here's a coupla screen shots. The VSS is reading about +5 mph high at speed from my speedo.

The trans temp only got up to about 140 with all the airflow across the cooler.

Damn... that is cool visuals. I just remembered, I used Mike on the 62 tranny air cooler addition. Getting old blows.

Mike is the man!

He found all the GM fittings and hold down studs & bolts, and has already prepped my old ends.

He's coming by my office tomorrow to work out some bends in the tubing while he's in town, and should come slap it all together on Saturday.

I love this dude.

I need to cut some new holes in the front support for my trans cooler lines. I used the AC line hole and there's not enough room for everything. But, I thought that might happen.
