For those that bought the Chinese fauxwing awning, be prepared to disassemble and reinforce the joint.
The hinge on the awning is very poorly designed and it doesn't take much force to bend and twist the frame. The bolt for the hinge only went through the top rib (right side) and the middle rib. There is ONE rivet near the hinge that holds the front side frame to the rear frame. My front side frame was twisted badly after trying to setup the awning by myself once.
I straightened and added a 8 inch piece of 1/8" aluminum angle and secured it with stainless screws and nylocs.
The frame on the back of the awning was also too small to support the loads. I cut off 1 inch to add some square tube.
Square tube secured with two #10 countersunk screws from the front side. This picture is a test fit. The awning cover has to go between the square tube and front frame.
I had to shave off some 1/16" tall ribs on the back and straighten the frame.
Back side with the square tube added. The holes are for access to the nylocs.
Front side. I shaved off the front of the channels and used a 90mm bolt to go from the top to the bottom. A PVC spacer for additional reinforcement.
To take this a bit further, I added #6 screws to the top and bottom to tie the front frame into the full length of the square tube. I also added two more #10 screws to for additional support. This is final view of everything assembled. This is significantly stronger but a strong wind would tear this apart. I only have approximately $10 and a few hours invested in this.
