Looked at the 2000. Needs driver side cv replaced. The boot was recently blown. Big problem is both manifolds are leaking. I figure the manifolds are cracked and not the gasket is bad. Good thing is I have friend who does free mechanic labor so I will not be an expensive fix.

Other then being dirty, the interior was is real good shape and the body is very good. Normal dings here and there, no major dents, scrapes or rust. The motor recently had the timing belt, starter, plugs, wires, and water pump replaced.

I think $12k plus another grand to get everything fixed would be a decent deal. It has been mom owned and driven, so I know it has not been beaten too bad, other then stop and go traffic.

Good luck with your purchase!

Unless the CV has mechanical damage (popping, binding) it may not need to be replaced. There are some good CV boot repair links like this one.

Regarding the cracked manifolds, as long as you're taking them off, you might want to throw $560 at some headers. Your repair labor will probably go a long way toward buying new.

Can someone take a look? Rosemead, CA

Anyone near Rosemead CA able to take a look at a 2006 for me? I will happily reimburse gas, beer, etc. etc. Thanks in advance, I am in Northern Cal and this is a bit of a haul just to look.

It's at a dealer, asking $31,000. Carfax looks good, 1 owner with good service records showing up. They sound like they may come down some on the price, but I didn't haggle too much.

"First post so don't kill me if this has been covered but does this look like a decent deal and if not what would you offer for it from the stealership? Also, what will the 90,000mi service kick me in the junk for?

Did you ever go look at this Land Cruiser? I was thinking about it but would save the trip if there was something wrong with it.

Thanks,
Eric

I think I found my Hundy! Found one locally, it's a 2000 with 160XXX on it at a dealership listed for $9999.

There is a small dent in the driver's side front quarter panel but other than that, it looks clean.

I have an appointment to look at it and hopefully buy it tomorrow morning! VERY excited, I sincerely hope that it's a clean, well maintained vehicle. Is there anyone out this way (Denver area) that would like to meet me at the dealership to look at it tomorrow (friday) at 10am? I can PM you with the location if you're interested and buy you lunch afterwords for your trouble.

I have 3 remaining CarFax reports that expire 10/7/10. PM me if I can help with a report for you. I don't check Mud during the day, so give me a day or so to get back to you. Please reserve this for vehicles you're serious about rather than waste them on trivial queries!

Bump.

If anyone needs a CF report, just PM me the VIN and I'd be happy to run it for them.

Well the dealership bastages sold it out from under me last night, and didn't bother calling...so I drove 45 minutes to look at a vehicle that was already under contract.

Found out that it was an Iowa car anyway, and had some pretty gnarly rust forming on the roof on top of needing an interior detailing BADLY, needing new batteries in the key fobs and needing a new windshield. The lady I talked to said that the guy who put the contract down on it was having financing issues, and offered to sign me up on a back-up contract.

I passed due to the rust. She offered to replace the windshield and key fob batteries for me, but the rust is iffy. If the first guy doesn't buy it, I'll attempt to steal it from them for $8500 and see what they say. It would be worth it for me at that price.

First a little bit about the truck and negotiated price. The truck itself is almost perfect in appearance. It's been garage kept and the interior of this 2000 LX is almost flawless. Inside and out is awesome. I was able to get the price down to $14k. Also, the truck has 100,000 miles. With the pre-purchase listed below what would you do? Pass or buy?
My plans for the truck is to put a 2" OME lift with 33"s. Will be used for medium trail use, expedition, camping and an everyday driver. I need galls honest opinions on this ASAP.
The owner has only had this truck for a hear and is selling because he works for the DOD and is moving out of the country.

PM sent regarding Carfax for another local vehicle I'm interested in. Thanks!

Hey Fuzz if you're looking at this one I looked at it on Saturday

Cars for Sale: 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 in Lakewood, CO 80214: Sport Utility Details - 286036865 - AutoTrader.com

The fender flares were loose, panels in the cargo area were pretty dinged up, that speaker grill thing was torn, lots of little tears in the 3rd row seats.. plus the carpet looked like it had been puked on multiple times, or maybe the whole thing got wet? And the steering wheel had some new cover thing on it, and the aftermarket head unit wouldn't shut on its own, and the key didn't fit in the passenger door, but the alarm works so it goes off every time you unlock the driver door (oh because there's no key with the remote buttons) and the windshield was cracked, on and all the fake wood was peeling up. Now some of that would be destined for the trash regardless, but this one a little too far gone, IMO...

I'm looking at another in Denver tomorrow, hopefully we're not steppin' on each other here..

Son of a :censor:!!!!!

Well, I unfortuantely had Dennis waste one of his carfax reports on that one. I'll still look at it and see whats up...although thats pretty discouraging. So it has no keyless entry fobs? Those lying arseholes....

If you're checking out the white one at Mike Shaw in Denver, let me know how it goes. Price seems a little high for the year/mileage, but if your haggling skills are decent then they will probably come down. I looked at the silver one up at their thornton Subaru location, and they sold it out from under me. Bleh. (see above).

Dang, what a shame! I was thinking it would be a pretty cool truck as it was a one-owner vehicle? Who buys that nice of a truck, keeps it that long and trashes it? Besides a soccer mom that is!

Still have one more report left if you need any more help!

If you guys don't mind doing a little traveling in your search, you may want to try www.crazedlist.org and have it search a wider geography. I found mine 1,000 miles away, but it was pretty easy for me as I commute to PHX every week and was able to easily arrange my flights to take a look at a vehicle of interest. Somewhere there was also a link for getting rss feeds of craigslist postings. Take your time finding the right one, it's easy to get Cruiser Fever!

Rust = always a deal breaker?

Not sure if this is a "Buying/Selling" question or not, but I'm sure that the thread will get moved if necessary.

I am looking at a local Hundy, and there is some rust forming on the roof at the driver's side front corner right behind the windshield. It was an Iowa car for the majority of its life.

How expensive would this area be to fix? Any body guys on here that can point me in the right direction, or should I pass on the car altogether? It drives well...needs an interiror clean up and a few other things, but all in all it feels ok.

Didn't really get a chance to look at the underside on a lift, but it certainly doesn't appear to be falling apart. However, I'm trying to avoid cruiser fever and making an impulse buy that I'd regret, so all opinions welcome.

Iowa=salted roads
If there is body rust chances are good the undercarriage will have a goodly amount. If you plan to modify the truck or do your own repairs and PM's go in with your eyes open. Rusty nuts and bolts can turn a 1 hour job into an all day or multi day chore.

A deal-breaker for many, particularly those that do their own wrenching. If there is rust in the body, then you can probably bet that the underside has it as well. In Colorado you typically shouldn't have trouble finding "rust-free" vehicles and it is pretty easy to keep a vehicle rust-free.

Of course, if the price is right (i.e. priced accordingly compared to rust-free alternatives), you don't do your own wrenching and you're not looking for a pimp mall cruiser (or willing to get it fixed right)... then it may be less of a concern.

For example... Personally, I'd rather have a high-mileage LC w/ no rust than a low-mileage LC w/ rust for the same price... which is probably the opposite for typical vehicles with a much lower life expectancies.

This is a good point. And yes, I would be doing most of my own PMs, and I'd probably throw an ARB on it pretty much right away.

Ideally, I'd like to drive it down to Slee's shop and have them give it a once over before the purchase, but I don't know if the dealership will go for that or not. It's not terribly far away, but it's a hike.

Well, this is a high mileage LC WITH rust. Double negative? lol.

It's a 2000 with 160XXX on it. I could probably walk away with it for around $9K. Surprisingly, it's VERY difficult to find decent crusiers here that are within my price range. They sell almost immediately...I've called on 3 in the last week, 2 of which were sold just hours before my call. This one is the third. Not really looking for a mall cruiser. In fact, this one would make a perfect trail rig because it's already got a dent or two. Thats what I'd like to use it for, but I also want a reliable daily driver.

The dealership has agreed to replace the windshield and the batteries in the key fob(s) for me, so that would save some money.
