@wardharris Do you have those air fresheners in your car? That's another $19.49 I'd be taking out of the portal savings fund, so I'd like to try them first before buying ;)
We can arrange a preview for you. Truck is going to Torfab on Monday, should be on the road by the time you get here. PM sent on another topic.

Yes, I think for now will go with some 33x10.5x15s. Would like to go 34s or 35s but not ready to open up that can of worms quite yet. The truck has 31s currently fitted with ~50% tread left so might even run those for awhile, although it might look a bit silly with 31s and the 2-3" new OME lift.
;)

I had 31s and they are the best for a DD. It makes a big difference in handling, acceleration and braking.
This was mine with 31s on it just before I sold it. It had a 2 1/2 inch lift and another with 33s

Going up from 33 wil require moving the front axle forward to keep the front tires from hitting the back edge of the fenders.

From a few pictures that I've seen it looks like a good move to move the axle for 33's as well.

Any commentary on this?

I have not had rubbing issues with mine. I am running 285/75/16 BFG KM2s on 80 Series 16x8 wheels and Spidertrax 1.5 inch spacers. Net backspace with this setup is 3.0 inches.

Any chance you have a side profile shot? How does the axle look relative to the wheel well? I'd like mine to be perfectly centered. I'm a bit anal retentive that way :)

All the photos I have are at angles. I do not have a 90 degree side shot. This is the closest I have now:

Dan, this is the best shot I could find quickly, again the tires are not pointed straight forward but it looks like the axle could be moved a bit forward. Pretty sure this is @theferg truck, and he is running 255.85.16s

That is Ferg's truck.

Tonight's question!

Rear bumper design....

How bad would it be to block the rear passenger side door upper glass? I don't mind driving the 100 series with all our gear in the back and not being able to see anything. But how about on a RHD vehicle? Checking that blind spot a bit more important?

Here's my preliminary design for the PS swing out. Holds 2 jerry cans, plus my TRED traction devices. Trying to make it look good when just one jerry can which would be 90% of the time.

Thoughts and advice appreciated! Witty banter accepted as well :)

Gentlemen,

As Jason and I are finishing up the design for the rear bumper, a have a few more dimensional requests if anyone could oblige me:

Also, any comments or criticisms on the design would be welcome. The top jerry can holder is modular, bolts into place when needed. Most travel will be with just a single can, but for long trips will have 2 cars (one water, one diesel), and the TRED mats. Main concern now is fitting everything and making sure the door handle is accessible!

Thanks!

Measurements approximate.

Left door 26.5 inches wide
Right door 33 inches wide
lower door sections 23.25 inches tall
Bottom of door handle 3 inches from corner
left edge of door handle 8.5 inches from corner

Many thanks Dan!!!

Looks like it should work:

Is that a 2" receiver in the center?

Kind of a personal question...no?

Here is the Kaymar layout.

Yes, that is a 2" receiver. It will go back and tie into the rear frame cross member.

Dan, I like the look of the kaymar, I was pretty worried about the access to the handle on the PS rear door, but it looks like it'll work out just fine.

The DS spare tire arm will be on a standard arm with locking mechanism. The PS jerry can holder will be tied into the rear door. Here is what it will look like in standard "normal" driving:

We'll have to see how much of the taillights are blocked by the swing arm and hi lift jack. You can see the little TS indicators just below the swing arm. Might need to make those more substantial like your Kaymar.

My drawing isn't to exact scale. The spare is a 33". The jerry can is properly sized. And the black rear doors are based off of @cruiserdan super helpful measurements provided earlier today.

Is all of the extra weight supported by the door itself or the new bumper?
