Bumps on my 78’s rear tub/fenders?

I would use nothing but 3m pannel adhesive.

Interesting. Not a CA model, which would also mention "TR" along with AI and EGR. Do you have a carb fan?

Yeah Ed - Federal all the way. Looking at the sticker in detail I was surprised to realize that the air conditioning should be off during engine adjustments. Guess I'll need to make sure the windows are always rolled up for future tuneups. :grinpimp:

I had all the original wiring, connectors and mounting stuff in place for the carb fan but no fan. Probably removed by the same PO that cut "ventilation" holes in the driver's side apron. Few years back when I found a replacement apron from a Freeborn Red 78 in south San Jose the guy happened to also have a really nice carb fan from the same red 78. The fan is good but still trying to get it to come on, reflowed solder in the box, etc. etc. but haven't spent a lot of time on it at this point.

Thanks want2 - like this stuff?

Looks like my OME suspension is settling in the back faster than the front. Driving much better overall but I guess I could just be getting more accustom to driving it. Maybe it needs a fat guy on the front bumper? Not very scientific but...
Love the stance, looks like factory. To me it looks better than the stink buggy look of other spring manufacturers.

Back in the garage for a bit. Time to paint the hood, it's off again. Avoided my usual chemical strip and sanded/feathered the to the rock chip/surface rust spider areas. I’ll hit this with the usual EP and color. No filler needed on the hood :) Still need to find a flexible sealant for the inside hood brace.

That is exactly what I would use. It will do exactly what you want and should still flex a little.

Hood back on, not perfect but looks good inside a dark garage with the iPhone. Back on the road anyway! :)
Don't like these attachment thumbnails.

Couple more quick iPhone shots, showing a little more paint on the truck. Knock on wood this thing seems to drive better every time it goes out.

Always hungry!
Got a new squeak that sounds up when I take off in lower gears, almost like a door squeak but more of a rotating type thing. Could the drive shaft parking brake be squeaking?

mine squeaks where the drivers top A-pillar meets the tub - a shot of WD40 shuts it up for a coupla weeks

Stumbling through California smog again (inched through 2 years back). After the carb rebuild and everything running well I’m again a gross polluter. The tech guy said it almost passed, “maybe lean the carburetor out” and recheck. I had opened the main jet a bit (per Jim C’s suggestion) on the carb rebuild, would that maybe have an effect?

Hey Gus,
I would try leaning the carb a bit
I would also change the motor oil right before takimg it in for recheck
Also, try to insure its good and warmed up prior to the test. High CO could be from the cat so having it warm may help It be more effective.
Also make sure pcv is working good, not plugged or restricted.

Thanks Mike - always good hearing from you and hope you and family are well. I've got another thread going on this and everyone has been really helpful. No cat on this guy but I always used to let the old 80 pickup sit and idle while waiting for the smog guy. :)

Can't wait to see it when all the painting is done! It'll look so PERFECT!!!

Good luck with the smog recheck. (At least that's something I don't have to contend with.)

Another part bites the dust. Those old big, black Toyota oil filters (15600-41010) have been discontinued and Toyota gave me a smaller black one (90915-YZZD3) to replace it. I guess it’s the one they use on V8 trucks but it (with it’s smaller holes, etc.) sure doesn’t seem like it could handle as much oil as the old big one.
