Starting a timing chain job. Heard a clatter at times, and it's hard to tell what the wear state is, so I'm just going to pull it apart and find out.

I determined that the timing belt was tight and had been replaced, along with the guides. No need to do the job again! So, I reinstalled the water pump and buttoned it all up.

Following the timing belt deal, I installed used/known-good carburetor, and wow - what a difference. The cold-idle kick-up works, so when you start the engine, it runs faster until you kick it down. This aspect of the original carburetor never worked properly, and I could not troubleshoot it. So, the truck now runs/drives/starts as it should. I drove it to work on a 93 degree day, and hot restarts were not a problem. A few glamour shots - getting ready to put it up for sale.
