So the snorkel that Nick installed is a 100% knock-off/bootleg version of this snorkel:

Lexus LX470 / Land Cruiser 100 Series Safari Snorkel System

Judging, by this picture, even the templates should be identical, all the studs are in the same relative location to the one we installed. I know its just eyeballing it, but it seems unlikely that they would have redone all the mounts on the thing.

I can't imagine why they would change the template from a safari snorkel. If you're gonna copy someone, make your life easy and copy the whole thing. Why would you modify it and need to make a brand new template?

Also I find it funny that people were previously questioning the quality of the ironman snorkels. Hahaha

That is interesting that this one is listed for the 100 series on the website and this one:

Lexus LX470 / Land Cruiser 100 Series Safari Snorkel System

on the website is difficult to find. It was my understanding that the one I linked to replaced the version you are showing a year or two ago. Now I want to know which one is actually the current model. I love it when Manf. cant get their own product straight....

I would think the templates would be the same as well... But you just never know with a knock-off.

thanks for that

yeah, the mounting is the same from what I can tell. Hardware was even the exact same on mine according to photo's. Does anybody have their Safari Snorkel template still? I'd like to see some pictures of it.

bad ass review... they even make one for other vehicles as well. i'll definitely be picking one up for a 4Runner

forgot I had taken these upclose photo's. If you have a Safari Snorkel please post up. I spent some time looking at the Safari snorkel head and mine does not have drainage holes for the water. I am planning on drilling the rear of the head to allow it to vent water during heavy rain. There isn't rain forecasted for the next week or so, I am not worried about it. I see no way for water to escape the snorkel body either, so I may drill the bottom directly under the intake hole to prevent water pooling in the snorkel body. I really don't want a half gallon of water sloshing around in this thing. That is the only issue I see with this snorkel. No way for water to escape once it enters.

I know pfran had the same question for the TJM. Thoughts?

Don't know what holes you're talking about but it looks the same as the Safari heads I had on my 60 and 80 as far as their "drainage slots".

Now that I look at the picture on a computer, you are right. There are no holes. woops. I'll keep this hole free for now. ha, thanks for making me look at it again.

here are a few Safari pics for comparison. What is the metal piece on the side of the inlet on yours? That is not on the ARB

Looks like the metal piece you saw on the knock off intake is just how the in-let grill is mounted.

I am in for a knock off! Love the "Land Cruiser" over the Safari logo.

Funny story. I had bought a Safari Snorkel from 4wheel parts for my FJC back in 09 or 10. But I did not have the balls to drill a 4" hole for about 6 months.

I was always angling with my wife about what mods i needed, etc.. Like we all do... I had to have a set of TRD Wheels becasue " they look more professional" That was my excuse, used the rig for work...

Anyway, the wife says "why don't you sell that snorkel, you're not going to put it on your FJC.." The next day I was drilling the hole...

The wife walks out and says, "oh now that is much more professional looking.." Pretty funny stuff.

If you are on the bubble about a snorkel, let me say...the snorkel could really be a blessing. I submerged my 4runner in 3-4 feet of water on a river crossing and the water was not really over the hood but when I got stuck water was very close to the top of the hood and the air intake was damp just below the filter.

You could find yourself in deeper then you anticipated and then be really glad you have the piece of mind of a snorkel.

Note: as far as fit, there is a large scratch/ dent in the fender from trail damage, that obviously made the fit and finish more difficult.

True. I'm sure the reason I couldn't get that rear stud installed was due to my fender being tweaked. I wish I could replace it, but I don't have a straight panel on my 100 anymore

they look to only have slight differences. lets compare at URE in a few weeks Nic. What other waterproofing have people done to keep things going in the deep?

Scuba mod for the diff breather is probably really the only other things needed.

You may want to check door seals for cracks or if door alignment is not perfect or even the door plastic jam being re-installed carefully if you had to remove it for any reason. As less then 5 minutes stuck in a 3 foot river, will result in taking in massive amounts of water.

It was nice to see that the 01 I have had the rear diff breather located up at body level vs not at all like the FJC. Tells me Toyota expected this vehicle to be used in a manner consistent with off road.

I will eventually move the diff breather higher and out next to the gas filler area.
