Got both side done this morning, but I stripped one of the locking screws for the bearing adjusting rings. Got all new ones ordered plus some spares

Good use of the hardwood floor boxes from your son’s project. Can’t have enough of longer wider cardboard to catch the nasty and help with working under the rig! Glad you are back to breaking axles!

Rich, as much maintenance as you do, I think it’s time you reward yourself with a lift. Good work and clean area as always.
Always wanted a lift but with a single bay shop with out enough head room I don't think it's going to happen

I always save the big card board ! It's amazing the difference laying on it over just the concrete.
I told Matt at American gear that I wouldn't be having fun if I wasn't breaking sh**t 😂🤪

Shes back on her own feet, went for a test drive and all's well. I have my standard check list to go over before I head out to the Rubicon pack and load.

Question is should I change the diff oil after a few miles ? I cleaned the housing really good and Matt took the third apart cleaned, removed the broken piece of axle, inspected everything, gave it a clean bill of health and put it back together.
So there nothing getting broken in no new gears or parts.
So part of me says no need to change the gear oil, the other part of me says it's easy just do it.

What do you all think ?

@Broski does not do “good enough”.

Oils cheap, and it’s easy, but if you’re trailering it not really being too hard on it, in my opinion. If it doesn’t get done before this trip, meh.

(I bet you do it)

It’s definitely not about the money, I buy the gear oil by the 5 gallon bucket.

If you were as meticulous with the cleanup as I would expect, I'd say no worries...with a magnetic plug it should grab anything else that may be in there.

I went ahead and did the gear oil change and glad I did.
This is the drain plug

And the fill plug

There was also some on the bottom of the drain pan 🤷‍♂️
Then I moved on to the front diff while I was at it
Drain plug, very fine metal as you would expect from normal wear.

Fill plug same thing

Glad I did them and will probably do the rear one more time.
Then I moved on to the drive shafts the front is a DC and you have to pull it down to grease the center section. That means pulling the front skid all the bolts were lose  so was glad I was in there. Then I see this

The insulation missing off the transmission harness. So got to working on that. Also re-torque the drive flange hardware and the lower knuckle bolts.
Less than a week till I leave for the Rubithon Event.
