Kenn's 4RUNNER Fordyce Creek winch hill one

Great video! I think I'd have trouble just walking that trail...lol. Be nice to see your 80 do that same stretch if someone caught it for comparison.
Posts 713 & 714 are the same, all three videos are winch hill 1

It's not that bad. The obstacle at the beginning is far more annoying than the main obstacle

Getting ready to go to SAS, swapped out the drive shaft for my spare the drive shaft took a beating at Fordyce

SAS is a relaxing change from the technical and challenging rock crawling that I usually enjoy.
If your not familiar it’s a great group of like minded people that enjoy land Cruisers and and any Toyota with A solid axle & 4x4.
Based out of Ouray Colorado it features loosely organized Day runs over the non-paved high mountain passes of Colorado.
Very scenic and beautiful, as such my wife will be joining me and so will my adult son.
This also meant I need to reinstall one of my rear seats and get the Hi lift jack off the rear foot well.
So I fabed up some new mounts on the the rear cargo rack to mount the Hi lift jack.
While I was working on the rack I also moved the driver side rear support all the way to the side so I could get my tool bag and recovery gear bag in and out easier.
I added some tie down points to make securing my sleeping bag, cot, pad and tent
More convenient on Multi day trips while I was at it.

Getting pretty pumped, The wife and I take off early Friday morning and my son will fly into Durango early next week and drive over to Ouray to meet us.
Going to be a great Adventure!!

enjoy, please send pic.

My wife and I did Sand Hollow for 2 days. Then went to Moab and set up camp and wheeled a bunch of trails. Then drove to Telluride and caught Imogene pass to Ouray. Spent the night in Ouray and took Black bear pass back to Telluride and then back to camp in Moab. Best and longest wheeling trip we ever did. Loved it. I really want to spend more time around Ouray. Looking forward to your posts. Have a GREAT and safe trip!

Noticed the cooler in the last pic. Have you thought about installing a fridge? Lots to choose from and when wired up correctly & secured work well off road, too. Don't have to fuss about ice anymore and there's models that have both fridge & freezer compartments. My recommendation is don't scrimp and look for the cheapest deal. I've had my 50L National Luna Weekender with mounting bracket (so no straps or bunji cords to fuss with) for almost 10 yrs now. I still keep mine in the 80 even towing my trailer so when unhooked & wheeling I got cold beverages handy.

Haha I have two setup’s.
First setup is for day runs where I stay in my camper and keep the cruiser as light as possible, that means no heavy fridge freezer. The camper has a big fridge that I keep enough blue ice in that even if I forgot to put it back in the night before I can refill it in the morning with fresh blue ice.

This also makes long trip like Cruise Moab & SAS more comfortable and I can get my wife to come a long.

Second setup is where I will be on the trail for a few days ( Fordyce creek ) and camp out of the Cruiser, again I try to keep it as light a possible and everything needs to fit inside.
Where the rear passenger seat go’s is where I mount my ARB 50 Quart Fridge Freezer running on a dedicated power line. On the other side is a Plano food storage box. These are easily accessible for lunch stops or a cold one
The rest of my gear straps to the top of the Crago rack so I can still access my spare tire, tool or recovery bag with out having to untie everything. simple and effective ;)

PS love not messing with ice

I hear ya with the 2 setups, I had at least that many with mine + the trailer and now, I sold my Lance and replaced it with a canopy (camper shell). I just saw this on EP - it's a tent that you can use on the ground, back of a pickup or as a RTT. Kinda expensive but thinking about it for trips that I can't tow the trailer, since I also sold my RTT.

Also noticed how much room your spare takes up. What's your take on swingouts? I won't clutter up your thread with my opinion, but they've worked well for me - especially when you get a flat and you don't want to stick that filthy, muddy tire inside the rig. Rooftop's out for tires that big if for no other reason then to get it up there would take a crane...lol.

Pretty sure @Broski said earlier in his thread it's a weight reduction and center of gravity play, which can completely understand with a 40. You'd catch a spare that big on everything if it was on the bumper and you were technical wheeling too.

^^^^^ This
My rig is purpose built for hard core technical rock crawling.
Before a huge debate gets started I know there are better platforms for rock crawlers and 80s are better suited for overlanders.
I wanted to brake that mold, built correctly for the task it has proven to be a contender !!
Ha ha I also like to role up the windows and turn on the AC in comfort ;)

Despite having to get towed out of the bush last weekend with a fuel problem, i was thoroughly enjoying my A/C while the guys in topless jeeps sweated their butts off.

Is also say that the 80 is a lot more capable in the rocks with limited modification compared to other platforms. Sure, there are plenty of jeeps that are more capable, but they also have $100k+ in mods

It has been said that the 80 isn't great at anything, but it is really good at a lot. Wheeling included.

A JL in stock trim can fit 37s without modification and will pretty much go anywhere for most average Joe - but i do agree at that rate, you are about 80k deep.

The last time I was on the Rubicon there were three broken Jeep in a 100Yd clogging up the trail 🤷‍♂️ Just Sayin.

Really don't want to debate platforms on this thread, if any one want's to start a thread on what platform is best I'd be happy to chime in.

Cheers

Need to finish packing for SAS !!
