So as I understand it, the IPF round headlight replacements come without bulbs. From what I have been reading these lenses take the standard H4 bulb, correct?

Where is a good place to get the IPF rounds? The only place I have seen them is the www.sams4x4store.com address, where they want $39.95 a piece for them. Does all of this jive with those who have gone this route?

Thanks.

Wish I had known about that a couple weeks ago...Already bought the IPFs.

Hey I put some silverstars from auto zone in mine and it made a world of differance they are plenty bright on and off road. I don't know what you are looking for but these are a cheap way to get some bright lights.

From what I've seen when it comes to lighting I would stay with major brands (Never heard of Pilot).

Even if you used a good quality burner, ballast your performance, from what I've heard, will not be as good as OEM (housing, lenses, designed with HID in mind), especially with the H4 (bixenon; low/high) set-up. At least with the 80 in Japan with their H4's, highs are not that good when you do the conversion.

Just my 2 yen. ;)

I tried the APC units on a previous rig, with a stronger bulb it melted the chrome reflector coating inside the housing, cheap crap that I will never run again. Tried the IPF H4 housings and the "Big Daddy" Super Low Beam XX bulbs - what a joke - the bulbs were more than the housings and barely noticed any gain over the Sylvania Silverstars I removed to install them. My Wifes Scion that we are selling now has the IPF MG Extra White bulbs in stock housings, shines brighter than any others I've used and has a cool glow when you turn it off.. kinda ricey, but we dig it. On the 62 we just bought I used silverstars again, huge improvemnt over stock and when I do the clip flip over to the roundeye 60 nose I'll run Hella or Cibie E-codes housings with IPF MG bulbs, a proven combination.

The "real" big daddy is IPF's special H4 they use for their Super Rally 930's at something like 100/170 (real) watt. You can pick them up, but better be prepared that the rest of the system would be able to handle such a bulb. :grinpimp:

Mot -
The best lens/reflectors I ever had were Marschal Ampiluxes that had separate H2 for the low beam (back of the reflector) & a H1 in an enclosed driving light reflector in the front. Of course that was long ago and they're NLA.

So I've been waiting for a bi-zenon H4 because it's technically feasable & ran into the Pilots in a Porsche magazine (in an article, but without any first-hand experience).

Do you know of a quality H4 bi-xenon setup?

Do you mean the halogen replacements?

If so, to be honest, I have not kept up on it as much as I should have. From what I've read in the past, most people who have done the conversion with the JDM 80 have toyed with their shield(?) to get good results, but most reported you can not see any improvements with high beams.

A lot of them are content with that since most of the driving they do are around town anyway. :D All the ones with bi-xenons that I used to know came in the form of projectors and they were not all that great with high beams, either. But I'm sure that has changed since I last checked.

Anyway, if you are, indeed, talking about halogen replacements, I said you should stick with the major ones, not necessarily so they have better cut-offs or brightness, but more in terms of reliability.

Sorry if this isn't helping any. :frown: I guess I need to check HIDplalnet or other lighting forums more often like I used to.:hillbilly:

I bought one of Wayne's harness through the 3FE forum on Yahoo. It makes a world of difference even with the regular lights. I replaced the factory lights and will not look back to anything else.

OK iam really confused what the best combination to get that not really expensive??

Probably a good pair of aftermarket light housings, such as Hella, Cibie, etc... and their bulbs, higher wattage may not be necessary if you compliment them with good harness to juice them up with. ;)

The Hella H4 replacement units, with factory wiring harness are a great improvement, and not expensive at all. The upgraded wiring harness would likely improve them a bit.

to solve my problem I bought a pair of IPF rectangular lights and made my own wiring harness for them. They work great.

Here are some pics so you may see.

This is the switch, I also added a blue light bulb that I had laying around in the closet.

The little black box where all the red and blue wires are connected to is the relay. I used a 30amp relay with a 30 amp fuse for the light circuit and a 20amp fuse for the switch circuit.
