Should have started a build thread years ago but I never anticipated this truck would get to this point. This is the second truck I've ever owned and I bought it just to go fishing in. I never realized how much fun can be had with one of these things. And I live in south Florida where there are limited uses and very few trails to exercise the old girl on. Newest addition.
Slee skid plates.
I did the full kit in aluminum. They still weigh a ton.
The build quality is ridiculous. You almost feel bad knowing what you are going to put them through. Down here the mud is so thick I ripped off the tabs on the original, albeit, old factory skids.
Obligatory sticker picture for reference
ok, finally pulled the trigger and ordered a rear bumper.
Bump it offroad, standard clearance, with a built in hitch. No swing outs for now.
Going to powder coat in grey to match the trim.
Now I just have to wait 9 to 10 weeks, damn.
The down side of being a land cruiser fan. My buddies with the jeeps can get whatever they want in 2 days.
But you got to love the sense of community these things have created.
Then on the way home got the dreaded battery light on. Then the vsc light. Then the radio died and she slowly coasted to a stop. Somewhere in central Florida with bad cell phone coverage. Thanks for the shortcut apple CarPlay. Thankfully got ahold of my boys on their way home and sent my girls home with them while I waited for a flat bed with what was left of my beer. According to my tech the battery has a whole in it and I need a new alternator. I've done some creative things to my cars before but never put a hole in a battery. Good excuse to get one of those fancy gel jobs and a new alternator from denis on the way.
REAL EASY FOR ME.
I work at a car dealership, so I had my techs put them on truthfully.
That being said, not as easy as we thought. First of all, they are really heavy, like two person heavy. Second we had to move the sliders back about an inch, so that was a little frustrating. But they are really well built, and have held up rather well since I(they) installed them.
Would definately recommend.
Here's the latest update.
On order:
Bump it off-road rear bumper. Single swing arm.
Lseats front seats.
Waiting for mechanic:
Fan pulley. Idler assembly.
Makes a bad whirring noise. Tech says it's not a big deal but don't drive far.
I hear those words too often from him.
Installed trail Taylor tow points powder coated red.
Because they were red.
Lseats.com.
Bisque.
It matches color wise very nicely and I'm picky. The grain is off a little. To the untrained eye you probably would not notice. For the price i don't think you can wrong.
i will update after we finish the headrests and the center console. My installer thinks he can clean up the rears to match.
I'm a pain in the ass with these things and was very nervous that they wouldn't match, but Im content with the results. My leather guy still has to steam them. Also said they are not the easiest covers to work with.
I would recommend.
Bump it Offroad rear bumper.
This thing is stout. Very happy with the build quality. My techs were impressed with the welding details. Swing arm has a very solid feel. Closes nice and tight. Installation was straight forward. Be careful when cutting into the cross member and make sure it lines up. I powder coated the bumper to match the trim but it's a little off.
This bumper is worth the wait.
Can't wait to try it out in the field. And now I have to buy another wheel and tire to match.
