Anyone out there know EXACTLY where the connector is located to hook up a break controller to for a 2006 Cruiser? It has the factory tow package with the 7 pin connector at the rear. And yes, I have spent the last 2 1/2 hrs reading many threads on this topic however the answer is still elusive.

I am planning to purchase a Tekonsha Prodigy (same as what I have on my 80) controller so was also wondering if there is any connector adaptor needed to hook this into the factory connector.

Any help and/or pics of where the darn thing is located would be greatly appreciated!!:bang:

Yea, that thread is one of at least a dozen I've read. That description is for a 2003 and don't know if it's the same for the 2006. I was hoping that someone knew exactly where it was and had suggested pathway (and photos) to get to it.

Guess I'll have to try the suggestions in that thread and see if by chance it's in the same place. Once I find it, I will take photos and post it so that others won't be pulling their hair out, like I have been.

Thanks for the response.

It is directly below the harness for the key on the right side of steering wheel.

Remove top plastic molding below instrument cluster. Then remove plastic molding below steering wheel. Remove metal plate below that is below steering wheel. It will be a white connector and if I recall it's slightly to the left of the ignition switch (key). It is very easy job and easy to take apart.

If your trailer has a battery, remember to unplug your trailer when the car is off to avoid negative feedback.

Well, finally got around to looking for that darn brake controller connector. And ya'll were right! It's behind the front plastic panel below the steering wheel, just below the ignition key slot.

I'm also trying to attach a picture (never done it before so hopefully won't screw it up) for all to see where that bugger is.:steer:

Ok cool. Saw that the I uploaded the picture correctly so wanted to post another one from further back. Hoping these photos will help others get to the connector.

Next thing is to find a place to mount it. May put it in the ashtray space, similar to what I did on my 80. I bought a Tekonsha Prodigy, which is the same as my 80 as well, bullet proof, easy to use, and have had it for about 3 years, no problems with it.

And finally, just installed the Tekonsha Prodigy in the ashtray slot. Was fairly easy and took about 45 minutes. If you need to get to where the ashtray mounts, the panel that is sits in pops out. You need to remove the ashtray and put your hand inside where it came out of. It's a pretty tough pull to get it out, so do it carefully so you don't break anything.

Here's a pic of the final install. It's clean, out of the way, and can access the manual lever on the bottom as well as the adjustments on top without any clearance issues.

This is an awesome thread, I looked and looked under the dash and saw nothing. When I bit the bullet and started taking stuff apart this thread directed me to the exact location for my 04.

Can anyone go into some detail about how they mount theirs into the ash tray? Do you drill into the box that the ash tray slides into and mount the controller mount to it?

Anyone devise a away that doesn't require tearing it all apart?

So I followed the instructions @Brian Waag posted above. It took quite a but of pulling to get the bottom fasters loose but the ash tray fixture came out!

I first tried to cut off the bottom of the ash tray with the thought of attaching the controller mount to the spring loaded plate. However, that didn't have near enough clearance and now I'm out an ash tray :)

Here is what I ended up doing, drilling two holes into the console plastic, and one new hole into my mounting bracket.

Added my controller today on 05 LC. Here is a pic of the connector found with a mirror without pulling any plastic. Took a little working the angles but found it and was able too plug it in no problem. Appreciate all the posts above that made this a one beer job.

Thanks to the posters in this thread for making this a ten minute job.

I just popped the knee panel off (there are only a handful of push-type connectors holding it on). Then, remove 3 of the 4 10mm bolts holding the tin in place. I left the bottom left bolt alone as it would have required me to lay on the floor and it wasn't necessary. Then I just allowed both to droop, found the connector just above the black plastic air tube, and routed my harness down the back to the floorboard. Easy peasy.

I'll spend more time trying to figure out how to mount my controller than digging for the connector.

My GF has a '00 100 series so I'll be curious to see if she has the famous "white" connector shown earlier on this thread. I'm doubting she has this white connector but I'll look. At the rear she has a 5 pin connector, not the 7pin round connector, which was a bummer. Thx for pics.

Let us know. That would be a rare if not impossible find.

I won't be holding my breath!

@alia176 if you do find the connector I have the pigtail for the brake controller if you need it.

ok, cool. Thanks man.

I know this is yeeeears later, but what do you mean about unplugging to prevent feedback?

My Tekonsha P3 and wiring harness finally arrived and I plugged it in--it was neither of the two empty plugs from my previous post. I'm guessing those may be from the disabled AHC system. I'm still trying to figure out how/where I want to put the ground wire and where I will actually mount the Tekonsha P3 unit. I'd like to put it in the ashtray but it seems from some threads that I may need to get a special adapter for that 3D printed. Thoughts on mounting from anyone using the Tekonsha P3?

I'm diving into this right now for an upcoming camper rental and finding it hard to locate the trailer plug. Definintely saw the remaining AHC connectors but need to look harder for the trailer plug.

As always, I appreciate the 'Mud community for documenting stuff like this. I'm deciding whether or not to start removing panels...

I did it recently. The pics in this thread are very helpful. It was kinda a pain, not going to lie. But worth it obviously.

Initially tried without removing any interior bits. I could not locate the connector, it was directly above the hard black plastic piece. Removal of panels was pretty easy thanks to this and other related threads. Ended up doing the whole process twice to route the connector around the steering shaft. Used velcro to secure it for now. I may only need it 1-3 times a year.
