Stuffed the seats in. Gotta make a spacer for the right rear of the passenger seat to level it out. But they're in. They're solid. They don't smell wierd. And they look proper.

Also got one of those DIY exhaust kits from speedway and started the exhaust. Yet another reason to never let me weld on your rig. It'll work but that's about it.

The TPI headers to 2.25" to a Flowmaster is quite loud. Hoping finishing the tail section will help with that. Otherwise might have to rethink it.

Took it for a "long" drive today. Got it up to 55mph at 2600 rpm and it still had more to go. Won't push it until tires and brakes and some other knick knacks are sorted. (Nevermind the wildlife towards the end. That's just Florida 😁)

Good day today.

Finally made it to Tire Day! "Tire Day" was the last major thing I told myself I'd do before it's drive worthy. Finally got it there (with help from you all and @cruisermatt ). Now, there's still tons of loose ends to tie up and lots of details I hacked together with the intent of cleaning up later, but for now at least, I'm just gonna enjoy that it runs and drives.

I couldn't get anything larger for the price point I was looking at so I stayed with 235/75/15s and tried the Toyo Open Country ATs. They look the part at least. (also the tread pattern has those cool S things I used to doodle in school).

Meanwhile I checked on the brakes. The PO said he did them but it's always good to double check. They seemed pretty good and just needed properly adjusted.

Also put the sweeper seal in for the rear window. It's not hard or time consuming, which I guess is why I procrastinated doing it.

Yeah man! Tires make it. No locking hubs interesting, I've seen fj40s without them, but never a 55. I believe they were dealer installed and you paid extra for them.

Looking great! Keep chugging along and before you know it with a little bit of money and a lot of time and effort these things make great daily drivers!

A lotta money and a lotta time and effort you mean? 😭😆

Yeah this doesn't have the hubs. Haven't done much looking into it but I always found the hubs on my previous 40 annoying so I'll just leave it like this.

Timing cover was leaking. Decided to reseal it. Found out why it was leaking. I have my thoughts, but what do you all think? Can I get this groovy pulley to seal?

Speedi-sleeve it.

I was just going to ask about sleeving it, didn't know if you could do a dampener. Can you even buy a new one?

@cruisermatt the thought crossed my mind.

@scrapdaddy a quick ebay scan says "maybe?" There's a handful of used one for about the $200-$300 mark and some "new" ones out in Australia for about $500-$700aud.

I'm more curious to find what was gouging it.

You’re probably going to end up wanting a double groove pulley for power steering later, so either sleeve the one you have or toss it and get a 3FE pulley (will work perfectly as a F replacement but are way less $ then the 2F version, which just has a bigger AC pulley).

3fe stuff is way less $$$. Might give it some thought tomorrow before I continue. The pulley is a wobbler so speedi sleeve would only be temporary (as they are) until I get a new pulley.

Punted and just ordered a new balancer. The balancer was a wobbler. The grooves came from the cover. Pulled the cover and everything looked alright. Not great (the key was a little chewed up) but fine. Definitely leaking from the crank seal. Time a for a reseal and then wait for the new pulley.

Primed and painted the cover because "why not?". Soaked the rusty old crank nut in CLR for 24hrs and it's like new - also did this for the other bolts.
