How about combining that i/c with a rock guard from Trail Tailor?

Honestly why would anyone need a Rock guard there? If a rock is that big then the axle won’t remotely clear that rock let alone the third. If the rock is anywhere near the frame rails then chances of getting over is next to none. Fine, put a rock guard there then add a fan. I only see that good for small rocks getting kicked up, just a metal mesh would do really.

are we there yet?

Yep!

It's just over the next hill........

True but rocks should be under the tires, not anywhere near the frame.

Not necessarily
If I can get the bumper over it I can usually go up. This pic was a medium obstacle and its way higher than the axles. sliders are also way higher then the axles and we use the crap out of them.
The whole underside and front lower edge of the bumper up to where it bolts to the frame is all scraped up from ramping up stuff. That week I actually shifted the bumper up into the flares from banging the underside of it and had to loosen and realign it

“Really a Toyota guy”...with 2 Raptors...not buyin’ it. Maybe you’ll Ecoboost the 80.

Exactly right Dylan,

I looked at that area when I did my first truck, but with a winch, a slee bumper, etc it is not a feasible location for 90% of 80 users ON THIS SITE if they want to ditch the stock bumper and wheel thier trucks.

I feel like this is a dead horse from my viewpoint or maybe I am just unable to articulate all of the thoughts that go into a design.

- But on a truck that statistically has over heating issues (maintenance issues) I did not want anything in front of the radiator
- The kit is supposed to be bolt-on so relocating the trans cooler to fit an A/A is extra work/cost
- Low speed performance of an A/A is marginal
- Routing the A/A charge piping is not ideal given the location of the throttle body and the fact you run your charge piping parallel above the exhaust manifolds.
- etc, Ad nauseam

I think there is a saying about products that are designed via committee and I didn't quite get it until now. Haha.

On the Raptor the stock IC is mounted low between the frame rails and all the air for it comes thru the bumper

we make an aftermarket bumper that actually increases the frontal area and ducts more air to the stock IC. we were able to increase ground clearance a little, but not much without moving IC (and cutting frame horn).

many bumpers on the market (and any with winch option) require putting an aftermarket IC up in the grill (still AtoA). they claim that the IC is higher capacity as well (but im suspect). this works on newer vehicles because there is a ton of room in the grill to the radiator for newer regulations involving impact with pedestrians.

This is the trade off!
I would not be willing to loose ground clearance or move winches on my 80.
I immediately scratched anything from CX Racing off the list for this reason.

Work vehicle is an eco boost exploder. It’s, special. For an SUV body, I’ve bottomed it out twice in the past thousand miles. One was just coming off a curb at <2mph. Engine wise, it gets the job done, and if an 80 reacted in a similar fashion I wouldn’t be mad. I am secretly hoping for something like the wives mazdaspeed6 though!

I would drop a 3.5 ecoboost in my 80 any day if it were affordable/doable for a knucklehead like me!

Ha
The Raptors are work vehicles but it is my daily and its awesome.
Maybe I should change it to "Historically a Toyota guy"
The 16+ Tacoma is a pile and it has made me a little disappointed in the brand.

Not to derail this topic---back to 1FZ turbos

GREAT news: Air to Water IC is on the Table!!

Frame rails are quite a bit above the arb bumper, the CXracing IC is between the frame rails. Not many people hit frame rails if at all. Do I think it’s the best location? No. Can I come up with a better location? No.

I’ll leave this here. I’m sure there will be comments...
