Dan

Hope you enjoyed your stay in Africa and at least the "Africa Time" syndrome afforded you the time to rebuild the mule and again well done

Look forward to hearing of the Mules' arrival in USA

Keith, Jonathan, Theo,

I ALWAYS enjoy Africa - and keep coming back. It may be awhile, but I will be back, even if only as tourist. :D Can't stay away

Best.

Dan,

Have a good trip home. I like the Cruiser better with the winter sneakers on her; never been a big fan of white raised letters.:)

Can you get a few bags of silicon gell to throw inside the Mule? Not a bad idea for a long sea voyage.....

Cheers,

Josh

If you can't find the silica gel, a bag of charcoal will do.

Dan, don't forget to send us a few pictures of the container!

Let us know when you make it to the DC area. You should not need front mud flaps or rears for that matter. None of us registered in DC, MD, or VA are required to run them. Once you decide which locality you are going to register in we can give you some tips but I think your truck will pass any of the inspections with no issues.

wow

Just found and read this entire thread, now Im way late for bed:eek:
Amazing work, just beautiful! I so need a 40!!

Thanks for sharing!!

Have a safe journey Dan !

Dan, don't forget to send us a few pictures of the container! :D

..

The ETA in Durban would be most helpfull also ;p

Wow, so much information. I have the same year and color rig as you. !!!!!

Brief update

The container with the Mule (and all our other wordly possessions) arrived on schedule in the Port of Baltimore on 23 Jan. The entire shipment cleared Customs on 28 Jan. The inbound shipping line released the shipment to a local company on 30 Jan for delivery. We had hoped  to have it all delivered today.

Unfortunately, :crybaby: the local company told me they seem to have lost - or at least lost track of - the entire container!:eek: Seems to me it would be kinda hard to misplace a 12 m (40-ft) container... :bang:

The inbound shipments manager has assured me that this is highly unusual (I would HOPE so!) and that they should be able to locate the box in a few days. It may be on it's way to Seattle by road (huh?). In any event, it looks like it will be awhile before we see the Mule again. :frown:

Theo? JT? You guys didn't sneak in here when no one was looking, did you? :D

 anyway.

Don't worry Dan. I can see the port from the deck of my townhouse. If I see someone driving a blue fj around, i'll chase 'em down. good thing about 40s is that no one can steal one and make a quick getaway...if you stop in the baltimore area for a while, let us know. I'm sure a few of us would like to pick your brain about the 'mule'. this has been a fantastic read all the way through. Hopefully they find your container quickly!

Seriously though I hope you find him soon, Dan !

Oh s***. Hope It didn't fall overboard.

You obviously have never tried to locate a container in a haystack. :grinpimp:

Weird indeed! I know I'd be scratching my head if it was me....

Dan

Sorry, to hear about the container! You sure it was loaded in Durban?! :D

Hope they find it soon though.

Well, perseverance - and panic  pays. I kept after them and we finally tracked it down. Seems some numbers got transposed on some paperwork and the box was in queue to be loaded on a train heading west. They retrieved the box and I asked them to verify contents. They told me they found 5 unopened wooden lift vans (the count is correct) with my name on them, and a vehicle that has them... confused

Something about a "blue Toyota Jeep" that looks new, but they can't get it to start. They wanted me to authorize a mechanic to "work on it". I asked if they had primed the carb or pulled the choke when they tried to start it. The response told me everything I needed to know  "Huh? what's that?..." In any event, I gave them starting instructions (they will try again on Monday); if they can't get it started then, I will make arrangements to go to the port and help them. I also suggested they just find an old-timer on the staff who knows what a "choke" is  :D

Soooo... maybe next week. Here's hoping.

Damn, suppose I better cancel that waiting truck then.. :grinpimp:

sounds like you'd better tell them to wait until you show up to start the Toyota Jeep.
