What method did you use to clean up the transfer case housing? (abrasives, chemical cleaners or a combination?)

Love the work and progress you are making. Keep up the hard work and the posts. Thanks

I power washed it, then I sandblasted the transmission and transfer case. It stands up nicely on the bellhousing, so you don't have to move it around. Then I sprayed it down with carb cleaner, and sprayed it with Alumiblast for Eastwood. Then painted the transmission with black engine enamel.[/QUOTE]

Thanks. I pressure washed mine too and been cleaning/buffing with scotchbrite pads so it has been slow going. I may need to rethink my approach.

I tried wire wheeling, and using scotch rite, and getting to the nook and crannies was not possible. So I sandblasted it on the first 30 degree day we have had in a long time. Much better result

What's that thing on the front of the transfer with the two rubber hoses coming out of it?

Vac shift transfer case.
He presses a button to get into H4

Can somebody with a LHD 75 series with fold down windshield post a pic of the wipers. I need a pic with them all the way up, and in the park position. I really appreciate it. I'm trying to figure them out! Would also like the distance from the left windshield hinge to the wiper arbor, so I can determine which mount pad they are connected to.

The plating company told me the cleaner the part, the more brilliant will be the plating. Just a sandplasted part will be very flat and dull. So I made them as best as I could. Next Pic will be of the parts all plated!

glass beading, i started doing it and love the results ...
i need to find a plating company near here. i admire your results.

Glass beading has been used in the aircraft industry for years. As good or better results than sand blasting and not as destructive.

It took me quite a while to find a plater. Called a number, and finally get a REFERRAL to a company that would take a small batch. Nobody does Gold cad anymore because of the regulations surrounding it. Too caustic. This will be plated yellow zinc. It is tested at 100 hrs in a salt bath...

Here is a sample of what they do

After almost 3 weeks, I receeived the parts back from the plating company. BLING BLING!!! Now it is time to see some progress. I have the block and head painted, and most everything for the engine clean, so I can start re-assembling again!

I received a brand new OEM water pump from Dunning Toyota in Ann Arbor Michegan in the mail today. Their parts guy could not even tell how long they had it!

I got the engine mostly back together this weekend. Kind of a puzzle with all the lines, brackets, etc. Glad I took a lot of pictures or I would be totally lost!

I haven't put the turbo back on yet. It has 200KM on it, so I thought it might be the best to replace it, since I have gone this far. A failure is not something I would want to deal with.

So I am looking for your help in getting another. I know nothing about turbo's. I would like to get a little more power out of it, but I also would want it to come in early. I wouldn't want boost only at the higher RPM's The one on it is the original stock turbo. I would like to go with a Garrett turbocharger, unless there are better options. I would also like the oil and water lines to hook up like OEM.

Speak up! I need the help!

Here are pics of the motor

Speak with Graeme, IMO a G turbo would be what suits you best, it is a bolt on replacement no mods at all, boost earlier than stock and much harder! Its what I have on mine, roughly 20psi by 2000rpm up to 25psi.

Hulsty, What model Garrett turbo setup do you have on yours. That seems like an aweful lot of boost!?!

That hardware looks fantastic! Great job putting this together.

Thanks Torfab! Some are plated, some are eastwood painted. They blend well together.

Do you have a thread on your conversion? When I get to the guts, IE putting the wiring and interior together, I will need more references!

After 4 trips back to Napa, I finally got the belts that suited me.

ALTERNATOR NAPA 2522474 GATES 22474
POWER STEERING NAPA 2522588 GATES 22588
AC COMPRESSOR NAPA 259420 GATES 9420

I wanted the belts to be able to slip on but when tensioned, still have plenty of room to tighten as they wear. The numbers in the FAQ only fit well for the alternator, but not the rest. I either had to pry them on, or they ran out of tension when tight--no room for stretch. I kept the originals for road spares
