I’ve joined the buschtaxi forum in hopes of finding more pictures of this rig.

Hi @FJBen
Found your post on the buschtaxi forum.
The links you put to the pics here aren't working there, so I put a comment and uploaded my original pic.
Let's see whether we can get hold of that chap.
Cheers Ralf

Thanks Ralf! I appreciate that. I was wondering if those links were going to work.

Very cool, it’s inspired me to start working on it again.

I just got my RTT basically done

Went to the junkyard to look for some
Hinges for pop top hinges from a late 80s Camaro/firebird see to look like they will work.

Here’s the hinges.

These have the studs for hydraulic assist. That will be helpful. I will put a larger set on as well further up in the top.

They seem to quite well under the roof.

The only small issue with is that since the roof of angled, it doesn’t sit flush to the hinge.

If I match the angle on the front the bottom plate has to come up. Or vice versa, put the wedge on the top of the bracket.

If I move it back and lift up to match angle, I hit a rib on the roof. I could modify the bracket to sit on both parts although I’m not sure what geometry effect this would have.

Any thoughts on putting a wedge on top or bottom of bracket?

Yeah that one will be interesting. I need to look at the inside of some pop tops and see how they attach canvas to the fiberglass
A lot of them have aluminum sub frames. The material is generally clipped onto the aluminum angle.
hardest part is tensioning and cutting the material so it comes up flat and tight without ripples in the fabric

This is by far the coolest thread I've seen all week. I just can't believe I didn't see it before. @FJBen I think the vision you're going for is worth the effort. How unique and cool when you're done!
Thanks! It’s a really slow process from me.

Mainly because I’ve got a lot going on now. My sons Basketball season is almost done, remodeling a 100yr old farm house and all the other farm maintenance and vehicle maintenance have put it on the back burner.
Plus winter kind of sucks to work in an unseated garage.

Hoping to work on it a little bit more pretty soon.

These are never short term projects, right? It'll be there waiting when you're ready to give it more attention...
Never short term!

I did get inspired again by your post and reminder and started tinkering with it over lunch yesterday. Just drilled out one of the hinges so I can extend that line. I may have to extend the front one as well, not sure yet.

Rivets drilled out.

About the amount I need to extend it. I will start with some 1” x 3/16” flat stock since it’s easy to get and cheap and make it work.

Once the angle is pretty close, then starts the drilling holes phase…
