For those of you who may be interested in this Cruiser, I emailed the seller to see if he had detailed photos of the "normal" problem areas associated with a vintage Cruiser. He told me the photos are not available but that I would not be "disappointed." especially at the price. :)

Ask him for a picture of the frame repair around the drivers side rear spring hanger. :rolleyes:

I did an ok job of it, fish plated etc, but it wasn't perfect, and I was fine with that for the price I sold it for.

I should email him, but aside from being kinda disgusted about this, I don't really care enough.


Despite my running that truck down, it was a good solid truck, if he was asking 7 or 8 for it, I'd say it was an ok deal. Not a great deal, but ok.

I was actually thinking of buying it back from the guy I sold it to this year, (when it was 6k) but for 15 you can get something a lot better.

He is now asking for "best offer" within the next 24 hours. I guess he is in a hurry to move it now.

If the current bids are legit, the auction is currently in the $15,000.00 and has been there for several days. Maybe someone with mad mechanical skills who likes a challenge will end up buying it. :)
 
I contacted the previous owner in Duncan B.C. (Antonio) in September when he had the bj70 listed on craigslist and asked for some photos. Pretty revealing.

It's a canadian bj70, which means, body rust and repairs , and lots of miles. It's better than most out there, but nothing so special as to be worth what he's asking.

You can see my fishplate on the frame in the middle pic if you squint, and that passenger side rocker is one of the reasons I sold it. Sick of rust repairs. I did the drivers side with a new toyota rocker panel, but it wasn't much fun.

I seriously considered parting it out, and using the good bits to convert a prado, but it was just a little too nice to do that to.

kinda wish I had now.






And Stump, yep, that's old Blue. Was actually dead glow plugs that caused it not to start...I felt bad for the kid....for a minute or two...:grinpimp:

That is why, you sir, have enough parts stashed on your property to make a few cruisers.

I remember you telling the story over the rainy May long in Cowichan. I couldn't remember if it was plugs or EDIC relay.

I've downsized a touch...believe it or not, I don't even own a cruiser at the moment...it's kinda freaking me out. :lol:
 
For a mere $15,500.00 you could have bought this one back. :D
 
I bet the guy who paid that for it will use the ebay protection clause based on false representation and it will be either relisted or back on CL.

Depends on how bad the buyer has the "fever" and how thick his "rose colored" glasses are. :)

the idea of calling it a JDM is a bit misleading.
you won't find a true CDM 70 that hasn't had bodywork, it is the QUALITY of bodywork that you now question.

Wayne tell me it ain't so! I have Brett T's old 1987 BJ70 (btw the vin is JT3BJ71xxx...) and it has the original paint and no rust at all.
 
luckily that one headed south before the cancer could get to it.
Brett was lucky as well finding one so pristene, he was a fussy duck and i think he still is.
did you get the over heating issue worked out?
 
I did get it to run a lot cooler. The engine bay is so crowded and busy there is hardly any space for air to exit. So I took the rubber skirting between the frame and inner fenderwells off. I don't know if it was oem or Brett installed them to keep mud out of the engine bay. That dropped it few degrees. Then I put a 1 inch body lift and that dropped it a good 10 degrees (F) by allowing a lot more air to flow out of the engine bay. I really recommend this to anyone with heating issues.

I cooled it a few more degrees by removing the muffler and letting it breathe a bit better. With the turbo I don't need a muffler anyway, it's not loud at all. And when I'm on the highway I remove the snorkel pre-filter. I don't know if that has lowered the temp or not but it does seem to run a tad stronger.

I live in the Lake Tahoe Basin, so I have to go over 7500-8000 ft passes to go anywhere, and I do have to monitor the temp climbing those passes. It will hit 230 if I'm really pushing it. I just back off a little and take a little more time.

I don't know if any turboed 3B lugging 6000 lbs up a steep grade over 7000' at probably twice the speed a NA 3B could maintain normal temps. It seems like physics to me. With a turbo you can move that mass a lot faster than a stock engine can, and thus the load on the engine is much greater than the engineers probably factored in as far as the cooling system.
