Weird. That's my old truck. ( I'm chemainus in the carfax thing) I had it for 5 years or so I guess.

I sold it to a guy in Duncan for I think 5600 bucks, he's had it for sale off and on for the last 6-8 months for 6700 or so

He'd painted it white.

...guess he sold it to an opportunist.

Frame has a section cut out and replaced on the drivers side about 2' long, I did a quick and dirty repair to the quarter panels when I first got it....otherwise was a pretty solid truck.

I replaced the drivers side rocker as well, didn't do the passenger side. Was rusting out when Antonio ( guy I sold it to ) was selling it.

Guess I kinda did a s***load of work to it...built the bumpers & sliders, replaced fenders and a bunch of other crap. Had just over 400K on it when I sold it.

No way it's worth 15k tho.

So it was originally a Canadian truck prior to showing up in the U.S.?

Yep. Canadian truck. I still have pictures somewhere from the night I brought it home. Rusted rear quarters, bald 33's etc.

Is it a BJ70 or 71?
Thanks...

Couple pics I found from when I had it.

After building the front bumper, but before I added the bullbar.

2.5" springs were still pretty fresh at that point...( too fresh. Stiff as f**k)

and then a typical day in it's life...

I always called it a bj70. Vin # says bj71, but it's the same as any other canadian 70.

examining the minute differences between the two is a job for more of a cruiser nerd than me.

There was no difference in a Canadian spec version. They just started calling them BJ71s in 1987 Still inline pump 3B, SF rear axle 3.7:1 open diffs. Got a couple colour changes though. 1986 was only Black, silver or brown. 1987 got the blue/grey and I've seen one factory red.

Yeah, I seem to remember hearing that.

I did put 4.11's in it, as well as 4 speed gears in the tcase. No lsd tho, but I was two owners ago. Some things may have changed.

Here's the ad from when it was for sale in Duncan. Looks like the present owner bought it in mid-late october . ( it is the same truck, despite the ad saying 1986.).

So the present seller is paying himself a pretty good wage for driving across country.

guys, that is a CDM, the vin number means s***.
if the vin STARTS with the model number then that is the unit.
otherwise it is just a bunch of numbers to make up the legal requirement of the country of delivery.
don't be getting all worked up over that *****BJ71****** section of the vin.
if the vin was BJ71******* then that is the model

Sold for $6,000.00 to $7,000.00 at one time and is now bidding over 15K.
That speaks volumes as to how desperate American Cruiserheads are to own a diesel 70 Series. :)

still cheaper than trying to buy from Japan.
the idea of calling it a JDM is a bit misleading.
you won't find a true CDM 70 that hasn't had bodywork, it is the QUALITY of bodywork that you now question.

I have only seen three Canadian 70 Series in the U.S. and other than rusty rockers, wheel arches, rear windows surrounds and frame they were actually in good shape. :)

you didn't pull the windshield, now did you?
or take a magnet to the A pillar ...
or pop the carpet and look at the floor front seam to kick ledge, rear inner fender to outer, rear inner fender to floor, rear double skin floor section or ...

that one has all of that.

rust around windshield, rear quarters, pass side rocker, floor pan around clutch, rotten frame I replaced a section of on one side ( no mention of any of that in the ad I notice) wheel wells in rear...etc.

seriously doubt there was a rebuild too. Engine had a new toyota head on it not long before I got it, but hardly a rebuild.

Quality of body work was fine for a 5k truck, which is what that is.( and not far off what the guy selling it paid about a month or so ago. )

15K??? retarded.

Pisses me off seeing it for sale at that price.

I hope those are fake bids, someone is getting ripped off if they buy that sight unseen for that much.

I wasn't in the market to by any of the Cruisers and I assume the current owners would have been offended if I started ripping their carpet up. :D

agreed.
supply and demand is one thing. you can ask what ever you wish and if someone wants to pay that, well up to them.
dishonesty, misleading statements, falsifying information to make a sale irritates me.

sadly, we live in a veneer society. most people don't look below the surface of an item ... till after the purchase. paint a turd and it will sell, try and sell a rust bucket and you might be sitting for a long long time.
to be fair, buyers need to look at a purchase with the rose colored glasses removed, ask pertinent questions, get things inspected (were possible) before dropping the coin. due diligence.

when i go to inspect a truck for a Cruiserhead. i call ahead to the seller, tell them what i intend to do.
i do lift the carpet, i crawl around under the truck inspecting the frame with a small ball pean hammer if is see thin metal or if it is covered with Ontario rust proofing, i give it a tap.
i don't pull the windshield but you can usually see signs of rust or bodywork.
i pull up the carpet plastic hold downs and fold the carpet back carefully to inspect the metal, same with the rear door area. i pop the side panels loose and take a look at the wheel well lip.

of course it depends on what the seller is asking as to how far i want to inspect. $5K, you know you are buying a wheeling parts rig. $10K then you start to look closer. $15K+ then it is time to do a indepth examination.

hence the JDM rage a few years back, an option.

Where were you when I bought my first Land Rover ? ( 1963 Series 2A )
It had three inches of oak leaves and acorns in the rear bed but man did I want that thing. :D
