Hey Rob, nope no frame, I did get the hinges though. Basically it will be more of the usual heavy duty sheet metal fab in the rear :)

These barn doors came from Charles aka Cruiser_Guy via Guatamala. I am psyched because John really came through. He let them go because he has a whole rear cut but I guess one of his doors was run over in transit. But he has a frame and I figure another door en route from somewhere... I'm psyched for them. I was going to keep it a surprise but who knows when I'll actually get to it so beans have been spilled :)

Wow! News travels fast around here. Unfortunately, the "other door" that I had in transit is not the same as mine but it will all work out in the end. The door that got run over is somewhat fixable but it will take some time. I would like to keep looking for another door so maybe I can come up with a better one. FWIW, it is the driver's side on a LHD model.

Dre.....I don't know when I am going to get to my barn door project either. Hopefully someday, but I need to focus on the drive train first. And then there is my 45 SWB pickup that needs some attention. Once again, I am in the position of having too many projects and not enough time.

so for the barn door install, since you only have the doors and not the frame, what are the plans looking like now that you know what the hinges look like.

well i just got it again,, tonight it was one of our own wonderin if i smoked a doobie before going over to his house for some pig wrenchin'

That is funny. I am getting it really bad since I just had my wisdom teeth taken out. I guess I am kind of high since I am on Vicodin for the pain. WhooHooo.

Dre: I know of a 45LWB in Junction that is for sale. I have not seen pics of it yet but it may be right up your alley. PM me for details.

I always thought that I was a LWB 45 pu guy but since I bought this SWB 45, I am really digging it. The bed is fairly impractical for hauling stuff but that is what my 75 is for. I don't know how I acquire so many Cruisers (projects) but I do. Somehow they just find me.

Wait, you have a 75 also? :D
Yep ;) It's my latest acquisition. It's a really crazy story, almost as crazy as Jeremiah's but not quite. It was sitting in a guy's yard literally down the street, about 3 miles away. I never drive down that road but for some reason I did one day on a Sunday afternoon on my way to the grocery store. I tracked down the guy who owned it and talked him into selling it to me. By no means did I need it but it was sitting there all lonely amongst some Chevy pickups and International trucks. I HAD to rescue it.

Will do, still needing to start putting the engine together... I've been missing the diesel bug a lot lately. I last a diesel in... 2006! (unreal)... So...

I bought this guy pretty cheap from a repo house. The problem, turned out to be a mechanical nightmare, literally band-aided together to get me home and pass the test driver sniff test (which it did for me, with flying colors!). I should have it running in a day or two with a new head. I'm liking the truck a lot though and its nice and clean.. Lowering, de-redneck-ifying a hair, trying to get better mileage. It was covered in chincy plastic fake chrome when I got it... Should be a pretty nice little truck once I'm finally done and its up and running 100%.

Some of my little mechanical endeavors with it. Here is a thread, full of all sorts of major tense errors, spelling and grammatical mistakes, getting worse and worse with slight increases in age. I swear my brain will be Swiss cheese by the time I'm 33...

Powerstroke.... The nightmare begins... (also, need tech help) - Cummins 4BT & Diesel Conversions Forums

Nearly twice the size and volume of the 4BT... Amazing. About 1300 lbs. Cylinder heads look similar to the Cummins though, it actually has glow plugs though which I haven't seen on a direct inject in some time...

So guys not much of an update as usual but I finally managed to get the head back on the engine. My plan is to pull the engine again and start building it now that I have all the parts and get that out of the way. I really love this beautiful Cummins engine, it is so wonderful to work on and its been reminding me lately how awesome they are, particularly after the nightmare I've been through with the Powerstroke. I definitely have the diesel bug again badly and its been great to have a few again (I have this, the Super Duty, and another nice 300D again)...

Photos:
1) How I encountered the engine, basically how its been sitting since November (I know, not cool)... Fully of dust mostly in the engine and a little cylinder rust. But the good news is all this cleaned up nicely...

2) The exhaust manifold painted now, shows the color I'm going to be painting the engine which is a nice dark gray. I opted against black this time mostly so I can see oil if it starts leaking...

3) Dust in the engine. Doh!

All cleaned up. These cylinders are in really good shape with only the #1 cyl having any real carbon buildup and all of it was easily moveable. I used a clean rag to wipe off any surface rust and the shop vac to clean everything out. Again this engine is super clean even with 186K miles... :) You can still see the honing :)

I pulled the head and gasket only because they were leaking oil and coolant. Otherwise compression was about perfect... I'm also glad to have solid valves as well... The guys who did the machine work also did my super duty (which is perfect) and do really good work (Clegg Machine in Orem, Utah).

Boxes of Cummins gaskets. So psyched, this stuff is so high quality, all parts are thought of an improved. Check out the super high tech head gasket, the same stuff that works for all B series engines 1983 - current. Cummins keeps improving their parts, which is just awesome...

All of this stuff is from Tennessee Diesel Conversions (Cummins dealer) who is just awesome... Tennessee Diesel Conversions

Head gasket on the engine. It is physically impossible to install it upside down. Bolt stretching gauge comes with the upper end gasket kit. I'll stop posting pictures of boxes with gaskets in them. Hard to do, this stuff is just so nice... :)
